Sam POV

"Sammykins!" Gabriel sang through our apartment. I finished buttoning the last button on my flannel and walked into our living room. Snickers pranced after me, the corgi's short little legs barely keeping up.

Gabriel was sitting on the couch wearing a cheesy t-shirt that he bought at Disneyland that said "My Favorite Disney Prince Is My Boyfriend". I kept insisting that he shouldn't get it, but he did anyway. All throughout the day people at the park were giving us gooey eyes, looking at the shirt and our linked hands.

Gabriel grinned and jumped up when I entered the room.

"Babe, we gotta go! We don't wanna get there too late, do we?"

I smiled and shook my head before leaning in and pressing our lips together. We stayed there for a few seconds before I pulled away. Gabriel let out a small chuckle as a rare blush grew on his face.

"Jesus, Sammy. You always know how to make me blush."

I grinned at him and watched as his blush grew. Gabriel shook his head and turned to grab his keys from the coffee table. He turned back to me and grinned widely before smacking my butt lightly.

"C'mon, superstar."

I followed him out the door, discreetly slipping my hand into my jeans pocket to make sure the small velvet box was still there.

By the time was got to the park, almost everything was set up. Mom was laying out paper plates on a picnic table. She turned with a smile when we came up.

"Hi, sweetie." She pulled Gabriel and I into a bear hug. She set down the plates and said, "We're almost done with everything."

"Yeah, it's pretty convenient that you two show up right as we finish working." Jo said as she walked over. I reached over and hugged my stepsister tightly. Mom had unexpectedly announced one summer when I was home that she and Ellen were getting married. Apparently they had been seeing each other for a while and kept it a secret.

It was a welcome surprise. Seeing Mom so happy, and after what had happened with Dad, was amazing. We thought she would never fall in love again out of pure mistrust. But all of that seemed to have vanished, and we were watching her get married again. Even Dean cried that night (though he would never admit it).

Gabriel shot her a smirk. "Our, uh, activities ran late, if you catch my drift."

I blushed brightly as Jo made fake gagging noises. Gabriel looked towards the playground, squinting at the children. "Where's my little rugrat?"

"Here, Unca' Gabe!" A tiny voice shouted behind us before a small body unceremoniously slammed into my legs. I turned and lifted Grace up into my arms and she giggled, patting my face.

Dean ran up shortly after, looking out of breath. Jo snickered. "You gettin' too old to keep up with the kids, old man?"

Dean flipped her off. A hand smacked him on the back of the head. Cas stood beside Dean, holding baby Melissa in his arms. He glared sternly at his husband and said, "Not in front of the kids, Dean!"

Dean rubbed the back of his head and pouted.

After Ellen arrived, we all ate pre packed sandwiches. It was a thing we did, ever since Gabriel and I moved back to Lawrence. At least once a month, we would all go to the park as a huge family.

After a few hours, I nudged Jo, silently letting her know that it was time. Jo cleared her throat loudly and all conversation stopped. She grinned at me and said, "The floor is yours, Sammy."

I shakily pulled out a small stack of index cards. Gabriel looked confused, as did everybody except for Jo, who was biting her hand to keep from squealing.

I took a breath and then held the cards up to Gabe, finally showing him the lines I had been going over for months.

(each • means it's a different card)

•I've always been a positive person. Look on the bright side of things. It gets better all of that stuff. But being mute was always where I turned negative.

•Why me? Why is it like this? Why can't I be normal?

•But I met you. And you turned my life upside down. I guess I've never been as comfortable with myself as I am when I'm with you.

•I'm happy that I'm mute. Because I know that if you hadn't been assigned as my translator, I never would have talked to you.

•I wouldn't be so happy. Hell, Dean and Cas are together because of it.

•And I never would have done this before you, but...

•Gabriel Shurley.

I placed the cards on the ground and pulled the small box out on my pocket. I set it on the table and looked into his teary eyes.

Will you marry me? I signed.

Gabriel let out a small sob and nodded.

"Yes," he whispered. "God, Sam. Yes, of course."

I pulled the ring out of the box and slipped it onto his finger. Our family cheered around us as he threw his arms around my neck and kissed me.

My translator. My best friend. My boyfriend. My fiancé.
