When dad and Harry came home Ben and I were watching a movie but he immediately turned it off. "You missed all the excitement." He grinned at dad in response to dad's question of how we were.

"Oh? Do tell." Dad said as he dropped in his chair. Harry had gone up to shower and change.

I told dad everything that had been happening recently, trying to gloss over the bad bits so he wouldn't worry. I ended with. "I'm not going."

"And I told you, you don't have much of a choice with them. I know that much." Ben said.

"Well I think it is a wonderful idea." Dad said thoughtfully. "But I would like to be introduced to them before you go."

"That would be the right thing." Ben agreed.

"So how do you know them Ben?" Dad asked, ignoring my shocked look.

"No! It isn't a wonderful idea. I forbid you to get to know them!"

Dad and Ben ignored me as Ben answered my dad's question.

"I know the families that run this area. Met them when shortly after I came to work here. That boy, Adrien, that she talked about, he second in line to run the show. It's a good family. Fair and honorable. She'll be in good hands."

"Is anybody listening to me? I'm not going anywhere with them!"

"Jessie should be able to handle the shop if Harry and I help her when it gets busy." Ben told dad.

"You won't have to because I will be there!"

"That's good, that's good.." Dad mumbled. "And you say they are honorable? Well..You'll have to take the dogs for a run if she has a sleepover with that Camille girl."

"NOBODY is taking my damned dogs for a run, I'll be there to do it!"

Dad finally acknowledged me. "It'll be good for you to go out. Meet some new people. Do some teenage...stuff. You have been way too serious and you shouldn't be so responsible all the time. Have some fun, make some memories while you are still young."

"Daaàd... You didn't listen to a word I said."

"I did so! They want to be your friends and they are trying to apologize. You are going out this weekend and I command you to have some fun!" Dad smiled like he was funny.

I got up and stomped out slamming the door behind me as I yelled that I would not and he couldn't make me. I whistled for the dogs and they ran up from the kitchen.

I slept just fine having made up my mind that I wouldn't go regardless of what dad said.
I woke up and because I moved the dogs woke too. I quickly got dressed and ready to run. It was still almost dark but I found Ben at the kitchen table when I went to get some water before going out.

"Hey? You're up early?"

"Couldn't sleep."

"What's wrong Ben?" I asked, he looked so sad.

"Did you mean it when you said I was family? Yesterday when you spoke to them guys?"

"Why are you worried about that? Why wouldn't I mean it?"
