The next day was Friday, no track practice. The only reason for me to like the weekend was the simple fact of no school. It wasn't my plan to up and leave straight after I finished high school but I could do uni courses via the Internet and by the time my baby brother was old enough to leave here I would have my doctorate in veterinary medicine. I would be able to do almost the whole thing from home so that dad would be alright, I had it all planned out. My practical experience would be done with Doc Murphy, he was the vet for our whole area, all three towns and then some. If he resisted my offer of internship I would offer my services for free so I could still learn and stay with dad. Basically the next five years were mapped out to the best of my ability. They were waiting when I drove up and Camille got to me first. She ran up like a wild puppy ya bearing before I even closed the door behind me.

"Start again." I said firmly. "I didn't understand a word you just said."

She grinned broadly. "Well you'll have to come to our place after school and we'll all hang out. We talked about it and you were right, we never thought about it like that. We could hang this weekend. You aren't a charity case or something and we probably made you feel like that and_"

"Stop! Just...stop Camille." I said sadly.

"What's wrong Red?" Otto asked while Adrien was quietly staring holes in my head with the others. I felt crowded and backed away from them.

"Thank you Camille. Thank you for listening to me yesterday but I don't think you understood me. I don't feel like a charity case. I know you are my friends here at school. But I also know that if it wasn't for Adrian none of you would have given me the time of day and he only did the right thing by me because he's just like that, I know that he would have done it for anyone in my situation. I told you I respect and appreciate you guys but you don't know me Camille."

"Do so!"

"What's my favorite food?"
"Lasagna!" She instantly replied.

I smiled. "No sweetie when I make that Otto eats it, it's his favorite food, we swap lunch every time I bother making it. Do you know my favorite colour?"

She was less sure when she replied this time. "Red?"
"Nope sorry. Favorite music?"

She looked ready to cry without an answer when David replied. "Rock music, or dance, any sort of music as long as it isn't slow stuff. She hates that."

"And her favorite color is green Milly, she always loves the trees in spring when there are so many different shades. She loves chocolate but her favorite food is macadamia nuts, she never shares those or the cookies she makes with them in it. She actually takes choc chip ones to share with us while she hogs the nutty ones. She has a lot of opinions she just doesn't feel the need to bother others with them, you can see them on her face when others talk. Like the way she hates cats, doesn't even think kittens are cute." Adrien was speaking in his normal voice but to me he could just as well have been screaming. He had actually been paying attention to me.

Bobby added his two bits. "Yeah you can tell a lot from her face like...She loves to run because it makes her feel free, you can see it on her face every time she runs, even when she knows she has track and the last bell rings she lights up."

"She feel sorry for you bro, you can see that too...every time she call 'stalker alert' there is an equal amount of pity for you and disgust for the girl." David smiled at me and added. "So you see we do know you, like friends do. Now will you come hang out with us outside of school?"

I was backed against my car already and actually considered getting in
and just driving away but I was pretty sure they would stop me. "No thank you." I replied instead as I put my head down and pushed through them on my way to the school.
