Chapter Three - Late Nightfall
I could see the moon in the sky when we pulled into the hospital parking lot. It didn't take us even five minutes to get here. Now that I think of it, when I walked with Sophia it felt longer than walking with Jamie. I wonder why.
Jamie cut the engine and looked at me, I straightened up. "Let me do the talking okay?" He said.
"Why? What are you going to tell them?" I asked.
"You tripped and hurt your wrist."
"Isn't that lying though?" It wasn't a question, it was a statement.
"Didn't you lie to the police officer?"
I looked away from him.
"Why'd you lie?" He asked.
I shrugged. "So he doesn't have to call my 'parent's.' I'm not going to talk to them."
"So then where will you stay for the night?"
I shrugged again. "I'll go back when everyone's asleep."
"When will that be?"
"Three, four in the morning. You'll be tired tomorrow."
"I don't care."
"You'll never be able to stay up that long."
"I'm a night person. I can go all night without sleeping."
"Well let's not argue now. Let's get you inside before your wrist starts swelling."
I didn't answer.
He got out of the car and I un-buckled myself not trying to use my left hand. Jamie opened my door and helped me up like I was nothing. He slammed the car door.
I was staring at his red eyes. He was mad about something.
"Why are you mad?" I asked when we started walking to the hospital door.
"Can we just concentrate on your wrist right now and then you can ask me questions that I approve." He said not looking at me.
I stopped walking. He turned around at me confused.
"No deal. Approve all my questions or I won't go in the hospital." I said.
"I can make you go in to the hospital." He said.
"Like to see you try."
"Don't test me." He said coldly.
"If we don't have a deal . . ." Before I could finish my sentence he took his leg and hit me in the back of my knees making me fall, he caught me in his arms. Before I could figure out what he did, he already carried me in the hospital.
"Oh dear. What happened?" The lady said behind the counter.
She probably thought I got in an accident because I look horrible, I mean I've been crying, the snow messed up my hair and I'm shivering.
Jamie put me down. I was off balance but he held me up making sure I wouldn't fall.
"She hurt her wrist and we think it might be broken." Jamie told her
The lady stepped out behind the counter and came toward me. "Which wrist?" She asked me.
"My left." I held my arm out.
"Does this hurt?" She moved it a little.
"Ouch, yes." It hurt so bad.
"It's definitely broken. How'd you break it?" She asked
