Chapter Ten - Different Surprises
I was in the woods following two wolves. They were both from other dreams. Jamie and Me. Jathain and Talikai. I heard a little girl laugh. It sounded kinda familiar. I looked around picturing a girl in my head. A girl with gold curly hair with a little red ribbon in her hair. A girl with a white dress that goes down to her knees. She looked about ten.
Another image popped in my head. A family. The little girl's family to be exact. They were a rich. The girl was an only child and she was always sad. Her parents really never gave her much attention. But one day she was out in the woods, looking for us. There was screaming. She saw smoke coming from the area she lived. By the time she got back, it was too late. Her house was burnt down to the ground and both her parents were in it. She was alone, by herself. We . . . had to take care of her.
"Emily, Emily wake up." Jamie said.
Was I still dreaming?
A warm hand touched my arm.
"Emily." He shook me.
I woke up. I was lying on my couch with a book in my hand and a couple of books on the floor were open. I looked at Jamie.
"Emily, we're going to be late." He said.
I sat up. My head was pounding.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah." Liar I thought.
"Well I don't think you want to be late today."
"Uh yeah, right." I rubbed my face.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"Sophia is downstairs with Ashley. You have time to take a shower and stuff."
"Jamie, what happened to the little girl?"
He knew exactly what I was talking about. It took him a second to answer. "You'll find that out." He kissed me on top of my head. "By the way, happy birthday." He whispered to me.
"Thanks." I said.
"Now, go get ready. We're going to be late."
After I got ready Sophia and Ashley wished me a happy birthday. Even Ray and Sarah text me to wish me a happy birthday.
At school, at least one Stelltar family member was in each of my classes. Riley was in every class of mine. I would glance at him once in a while, but every time I did he would glance at me. When Riley was in my classes with Jamie it was kinda awkward. So were all the rest of my classes with one of the Stelltars. But, not the same awkwardness with Jamie.
In gym Alex would not leave my side. We were doing basketball again, which was bad because I trip a lot. I tried to avoid the ball at all causes and Riley too. Some boy had the ball and he went running to the other side. While he passed me he shoved me making me fall. But Alex caught me . . . I think. Her arms weren't that sturdy. Her arms were just bone. It took me a second to process what was happening. It definitely wasn't Alex but it was Riley.
He helped me stand up straight. "You okay?" He asked.
"Y-yeah" I said choked up and nervous.
"The guys are kinda violent around here."
"Yeah I can tell."
"I heard it's your birthday."
"Uh yeah."
