This is my life.

I like my sleep, but apparently, The Council just likes to disrupt it. I hear the ringtone I set for them, "Unforgiven" by Metallica, I groan.  "What can I do for you, Councilman Rogers?"  I tried to sound pleasant, I really did.  "It's Octavius, darling girl."  He chuckles.  "Oh, hey, O-man, what's up?"  I smile.  "There is a wolf issue we need to look into. There is a pack in Mississippi that is having some issues and the wolf council has brought it to our attention. I know how you feel about Alphas but this pack is an important one. They are part of the Were special forces."
"Fantastic, more testosterone. OK, because it is you, and you are my favorite, I will do my best to be good. When am I leaving?"   I swear I can hear him smile.  "About an hour."  Fuck!  "I'll be ready. Bye O-man."
I fly out of bed and rush through a shower, breakfast, packing and I'm out the door. I live in an apartment about a mile from The Head Council's headquarters. We are located in Washington DC. Fitting, since the HC is the government for the supernaturals. We hide in plain sight, no the humans do not know we exist.
A car is waiting for me outside and when I see the driver a broad smile overtakes my face.
"O-man!"  He laughs at my name for him. He is the closest thing to a father that I have. He has been there for me my whole life. Let me tell you a bit about Octavius. He is a massive man, seven foot tall, about three hundred pounds of solid muscle and a dragon shifter. He is an ancient, pushing three thousand years old. The has coal black hair and teal eyes. He only looks about thirty, but looks are deceiving.
"You look nice."  He says, cocking an eyebrow at me. I shrug, I'm wearing what I usually wear for a mission, black combat boots, black tactical pants, black tank top and a black jacket. My fiery red hair is up in a high ponytail that is still long enough to almost sit on.  "It's what I always wear."  His teal eyes meet my midnight blue ones and he smiles. The drive to the airfield is about fifteen minutes so he takes the time reminding me that I have to ask the Alpha for permission to be on their territory and not to get into too many fights.
"O-man, you know me, I can be good."  This causes him to laugh. His deep voice is a balm for my nerves, as it has always been.  " They don't know that you work for the High Council, they think you work for the Wolf Council. So, you know the rules."  I sigh,  " No one knows that the HC exists outside of the councils and no one can know about the other supers. No one can know what I truly am or what I truly do. Be quick, efficient, effective, and keep the peace. It has been drummed into me since birth."  He gives me a sad smile,  " I know you get lonely, dear girl, just know that I will always be here for you."  I nod. It's true, he has always been there.  Then he grins and I know he is remembering all the trouble I caused growing up in the HC.
He parks and I grab my bag. He pulls me into a hug,  " Be safe, I know that there is nothing that you can't handle but I still worry about you."  I know the sight of us must be funny. O is seven foot tall and a wall of muscle and I am about five foot six and look a bit tiny. He lets go and I give him a small wave as I board the private jet bound for Mississippi.
On the long flight, I pull out my tablet to read the case notes and info on the pack I am visiting. The Alpha and his high command are all former Navy Seals. In fact, the whole pack is basically former or active duty military. I like them already.
While I have a second of downtime, let me tell you about the Head Council and explain a bit about what is going on, since I can imagine you are confused. The HC is made up of six ancients that represent the different species of supers. Octavius is the shifter rep, he takes care of the shifters, dragon, tiger, wolf, bear, and fox. Louis is the vampire rep, he only deals with the vamps, and trust me when I tell you, he is a dick. Sandra is the witch rep, she deals with the mystics, witches, and warlocks. She is a horrid woman. Lynn is the Fae rep, handling Fae, trolls, and giants. She is a lot of fun and extremely strange. Raphael is the Angel rep, he deals with Angels and Guardians, he is strict and a bit mean. And finally we have Dean Rogers, he is the demon rep, handling the demons and humans. Dean is great, he doesn't have a great big stick up his ass.
The HC has been in place for around two thousand years and the same people have been in charge. About a thousand years ago some psychic has a vision of a great war between the species so to avoid this, the HC had the bright idea to separate everyone and keep each species in the dark about each other. So for example, werewolves only know about werewolves and humans, vampires only know about vampires and humans. The only people with the knowledge that others exist are the individual Councils, HC, and myself. I personally think it is a stupid idea, but they don't ask me, so.
Now, about me. I am Rae Ann Delaney. My official title is Peacekeeper. I have no family because I was not born, but created. The HC decided to experiment and wanted to know if they could make a super supernatural. They took the DNA of the ancients and combined them, yes I am like an eighth-grade science experiment. I have been training since birth to use all my powers and I have more knowledge and skills than all the HC members combined. Only Octavius knows the extent of my power, well, to a point, because he is the only person that I trust completely. I am twenty-seven, five foot six, curvy, and in top shape. I have very long fiery red hair and midnight blue eyes. I train daily to keep up my physical strength.
As the plane lands, I feel the presence of three wolves waiting on me. I grumble to myself, I am not a fan of wolves, they are so territorial. I take a deep breath, no Alpha, I don't feel the power from him, but I feel a Beta and two warriors. That I can handle. I grab my bag and exit the plane.
I see three large men standing next to a big SUV. The man in the middle walks towards me with a smile. He is well over six foot tall, brown hair that hangs to his shoulders, brown eyes, very muscular.  "Hi, my name's Drake, but everyone calls me Smoke. I'm the Beta."  He holds his hand out to shake. I grasp his hand and look him straight in the eyes,  "I'm Rae, your Council sent me to help with some disruptions."  I hate shaking hands or touching skin to skin because it tells me their secrets and I usually feel bad about invading their privacy. Smoke here is gay and is afraid to tell his pack because he doesn't want to be shunned or treated differently. He hasn't found his mate and is scared to do so. I also get a flash of his mate, what a hottie.
I can change my scent to match the job, it for my safety and to keep the secrets that I am sworn to protect. So, they think I am a wolf too, I am not, but I can shift into one, as well as anything I want. I know, I'm cool.
"The Alpha is waiting back at the pack house. He was talking to a neighboring Alpha, it seems that we are the only ones having an issue."  Smoke tells me as we head to the SUV. I nod.  "This is Tank and Carter, head warriors."  I nod to each. Smoke opens the passenger door for me and Tank grabs my bag.  "Careful, there, Tank. You never know what's in a girl's bag."  I wink at him earning me a laugh from the three of them. His hand brushes mine and his secrets reveal themselves, his mate rejected him a few months ago for a human she was dating. He is going to have a second chance mate soon, she is a better person and very beautiful. I climb in smiling.  "We are about twenty minutes from the pack house."  Smoke tells me as we take off. I nod,  "Tell me about your pack. "  He asks. I frown,  " I don't have one, I work for the council. I guess you could say that they are my pack of sorts, I am simply a tool, a warrior that travels to help others fix their problems."
"Sounds lonely, don't you have a mate?"  He asks. I shake my head, " I am not sure I am meant to have one. I am twenty-seven and have pretty much been all over the world. I have never really thought about having a mate, or anyone for that matter, it has always just been me."    "What about your family?"  Tank asks from the back seat.  "I don't have one. Like I said it has only ever just been me. I have been taught and trained by the council since birth."   I shrug.  "So, you're a virgin, then?"  Carter asks. I laugh. Wolves are funny that way. They believe that the woman should wait for her mate while the men can stick it where they want, when they want.  " Hell no, look, I know that you guys believe that, but hell, a girl's got needs too."  This makes them all roar with laughter. I like them, they are not like the stuck up wolves I am used to.
