Bump in the road

The rest of the ride went with all of us joking and laughing. Then I feel it, a vampire. This isn't good. There shouldn't be a vampire in wolf territory. I send out my senses and it isn't a good vampire. This one is evil and old.  "Stop the car."  I tell Smoke. He looks at me with concern but stops.  "Stay here." I tell them as I hop out and run towards the vampire. Damn, it's Mason.  "Mason, stop! What in the hell are you doing here?"  I yell as I reach him. Mason is about four hundred years old and he lives to kill and fuck, that is all. I hate this guy, but if he is causing problems, I have no problems ending him. The only way to kill a vampire is to take his head. Good thing I have my sword, it was cloaked so no one could see it.  "Ah, Peacekeeper, long time no see. Playing with dogs this time?"  Mason coos. Fucking vampires.  "You are out of line, you know the rules. Leave or I will end you."  I growl. He charges me and the fight is on. This is what I love, the fight. It makes me feel alive.
We clash over and over, him knowing that if I take his head it's over and me knowing that nothing he can do will stop me. Finally, I slash my sword through his neck. He falls and his rolls right to Tanks feet. Shit! Stupid wolves never listen. I clean my blade with Mason's shirt before jogging back for my bag. I grab it and head back to the body, picking up the head and throwing it next to the rest of him. I grab a flask of special accelerant and douse his corpse. I light a match, and after using it to light my cigarette, toss it on the body.  White flames consume the body and then it's gone. The only thing left is a chip, it has been inserted in every super at birth since the HC began to keep track of them. I grab it and put it the case in my bag before heading back to the SUV.
The three wolves climb in and stare at me with wide eyes.  "What the fuck, Rae?"  Tank asks before starting the SUV.  " Well, there are things you don't know, it is best if I only have to explain once, so let's get to your Alpha and I will tell you all a story."  He nods and we take off. Everyone is quiet the next five minutes. He parks outside of a huge beige house.  "Come on, Rae. We have an Alpha to see."  Smoke sighs as we all climb out and Carter hands me my bag, I avoid contact, I don't want to see anything right now.
I follow them inside and upstairs. Smoke knocks on the office door. I hear a deep rumbling voice tell us to enter. That voice sends chills through me. I immediately block my sent completely. Smoke stiffens and turns to look at me. I shake my head and he offers a small nod. Sitting behind a massive desk is the most breathtaking man I have ever seen. Short dark, almost black hair, piercing green eyes, perfect mouth, broad shoulders and chest. Oh my sweet tarts!  "Alpha, this is Rae, she is from the council and she apparently has a story to tell us."  Smoke says plopping on a couch against the wall. Those green eyes meet mine and I am struck in the chest, thankfully I have my walls up, because I think he is my mate, and that is bad news right now. He motions for me to have a seat. I lower myself into the chair directly in front of him and Tank and Carter sit in the other chairs.
"My name is Gage. Alpha of the Midnight pack."  He holds his hand out and I grasp it,  "Rae Ann, but everyone just calls me Rae and I am here on behalf of the council."  I see his secrets, he is haunted by nightmares from many missions and being tortured. I shudder as I sit back in the chair. I know what that is like. Smoke clears his throat,  "We were attacked on the way from the airport,Alpha. It was a creature unlike anything I have ever seen."  Gage cuts in, " Was anyone hurt? Where is this creature?"  Tanks snickers,  "Rae killed it, single-handedly. She was awesome."  Those green eyes swing back to me. I sigh,  "It was a vampire. That is what is causing the problems in your territory. You have an infestation. The one I killed was named Mason, he was over four hundred years old and giant pain in my ass. This isn't the first time I have dealt with that leech."   "Vampires are real?"  Smoke asks, shocked. I nod.  "Humans and werewolves are not the only things that exist. The High Council is supposed to control them and keep them in their place but it doesn't always work, obviously. What I am about to tell you could cost me my life, but you need to know. I have put a shield around the room, no one can hear what I am about to tell you and you cannot tell anyone. "  They all nod and I tell them all about the HC and the vision. When I am finished they all look shocked.  "So you are saying there are all different kinds of shifters and supernatural species?"  Gage asks and I nod.  "What are you?"   He asks and I close my eyes,  " An abomination. An experiment. A mistake. I hold the DNA of all the ancients. I am everything. I am nothing. A tool, a weapon, an object to be used for the HC as they see fit."  I open my eyes and see those green eyes blazing pure anger.  " I am here to help you and I will. I do understand if you wish to keep me away from your people. I am not here to harm you or your pack, that I swear."  I whisper to him.  " My apologies,Rae, my anger is not at you but the council. If what you are saying is true then the people that we trust the most has been lying to us our whole lives."  I nod.  " You must be tired, it is late and I think we all need to process all of this. How about we get you settled in a room and we can meet up again in the morning?"
"Thank you. "  He nods and Smoke gets up.  "Come on, Rae Rae, I will show you to your room."   I smile at his nickname and grab my bag, following behind him. We go up two more flights of stairs to the fourth floor.  "This is the Alpha and Beta floor. The important guest stay here."  He smiles as he opens the door to a massive bedroom.  "This is the size of my whole apartment."  I say with wide eyes and he chuckles.  "Why did you hide your scent?"  He asks, sitting on the couch at the end of the bed. I sigh and drop down next to him.  "He is my mate, I honestly didn't think I would have one being as I am what I am. It is best for him not to know just yet. We need to work all this mess out without the mate thing clouding his mind."  Smoke nods,  "I agree, you're pretty smart for a lab rat."  I laugh.  " Nice, it's a good thing I am not sensitive."   He laughs,  "I know a hard ass when I see one. You are a warrior, a soldier, and you seem like you have taken one too many orders that you don't agree with. I have been there. That's why I retired."  I smile at him.  "I can't retire, they own me. They made me. The only person that truly cares about me is Octavius, he is a dragon. An ancient dragon. He is like a father to me. I know that you want proof of what say is true."  He nods.  "Fine, can we go outside, I need a cigarette anyways."  He grabs my hand and leads me out to the training grounds.  "I linked Gage, he will want to see this too."  I sigh,  " Of course".  He smiles brightly and elbows my side.  "Smoke, something you should know, I am good at keeping secrets. But when I make skin to skin contact, I can see yours. I have seen some, but they are locked in vault, no one will know. You can always talk to me though."  He smiles and nods as Gage strides across the grounds and I finish my cigarette. Gage, Smoke, Tank, and Carter are all standing there as I put my cigarette out in my hand and it disappears.  "OK, I have put up a shield so know can see or hear us. No powers can penetrate it but we can see and hear everything that goes on around us. First, I will show you my animals, they are my favorite".  They all step back and nod. Three pairs of eyes watching me intently. I offer them a smile and shift into my dragon. She is red, like my hair, twelve foot tall and her scales shimmer. I stretch my wings and blow a little puff of fire.
The look on their faces are priceless and I chuckle. Then I shift into my bear. She is eight feet tall, reddish brown and very muscular. I let out a roar and they all smile. Next is my tiger. She is a white tiger, and she is beautiful. I sit and lick my paw watching the awe on their faces. Then I shift into a tiny red fox with a bushy tail. Tank picks me up,  "Aren't you just the cutest little thing."  He coos and I nip him and jump back on the ground. They all roar with laughter. I saved my wolf for last. I shift into a solid red wolf. My fur looks like flames. My eyes glow an icy blue and they all look at me like I am the most beautiful thing they have ever seen.  "Beautiful"  Gage whispers and I shift back into myself. Thankfully, I am always fully clothed when I do. That was another shock to them.
"How are you not naked?"  Carter asks. I laugh. "Magic. I learned to do that a long time ago. I don't want to run around in the nude when there are a bunch of horny men wandering about."  They all laugh.  " OK, we believe you. That was incredible. Let's get some sleep and meet up after training."  Gage nods and turns to leave.  "Wait, two things. Can I join training, I was unable to today, due to travel and I hate not doing it. And second, where can I get some food? I have been on a plane all day and killing vamps always makes me hungry."  As I start to speak, Gage turns to face me he smiles and it damn near makes me weak in the knees, damn mate bond.  " Sure, come on. I will show you to the kitchen. I guess you all missed dinner."  So our little group marches back into the house and straight to the kitchen. As we start to eat, Gage looks at me, " Training starts at five am, I don't tolerate tardiness. Be on time or don't come at all. Breakfast is afterwards."  I nod.  "Thank you."  I head back to my room following behind Smoke and Gage since we are all on the same floor.  "Good night, Rae."  Gage says as he enters his room.  "Good night, Alpha."  I smirk at him and he smiles and shakes his head and closes his door. Smoke walks me to my door.  "He likes you, ya know. Even though he doesn't know it. Good night, Rae Rae."  I laugh.  "Good night, Smoke."  I head straight for the shower. The bathroom is huge, no surprise there. After a nice hot shower, I wrap a towel around myself and walk back into the bedroom. Gage is setting on the bed and our eyes meet.  " I wanted to talk to you, privately." I nod,  "Let me throw on some clothes first."  He smiles and I grab my clothes from my bag and head back to the bathroom. Throwing on my underwear, a tank top and boy shorts, I grab my brush and a rubber band and head back to the bedroom. I sit next to him and brush out my hair.  " What can I do for you, Gage?"  I ask as I start braiding my long hair. He takes a deep breath.  " I don't know how to start. Do you have someone special in your life? A husband, or boyfriend?"  I smile and throw the braid over my shoulder.  "No, I have always been alone. I am no virgin, but I don't do relationships and you can probably guess why."  He nods.  "Goodnight, then."  And he leaves. I shake my head, that was odd,  and grab my phone dialing Octavius.
"Hello?"  His deep voice booms from the phone.  "O-man!"  He laughs. " I take it you made it alive, darling girl?"  "Nope, I am calling you from beyond the grave."  I deadpan. He laughs and tell him about Mason, but leave out the fact that they know. Phones are not secure and I don't know how he will take it.  " Well, this isn't good but it is why you are there. So be smart and safe."  He tells me.  "O, do you think that I could have a mate?"  He pauses.  "Well, dear, everyone has a mate, why wouldn't you? Why did you find him?"  I sigh.  "I'm just lonely. Everyone has someone and sure I can find someone for a night, but what about longer?"  "Listen, I want you to be happy, you are like a daughter to me. The High Council is a different story. They won't allow distractions plus, they don't want you to reproduce. They don't know what kind of offspring you would make."  I nod, even though he can't see me. " Yeah, I understand. If I find love, what will they do?"  He sighs.  "Look, sweetie, they put a protocol in place, I don't agree with it, but they will eliminate any and all distractions."  I feel a tear slide down my face.  " I understand, O, I need to grab some sleep. I will call with my regular reports. I will send Mason's chip straight away. Good night, O, you are my father, never forget that."  I tell him.  "Good night, dear girl."  I end the call and plug it in. That night, for the first time in years, I cry myself to sleep.
