Tears silently fall off my face as I rush through the dim lit house. Grady and Edaline bolt up from the table, walking over to see what happened.
I hold up my hands in defeat and run upstairs to my room, Sandor trailing behind me.
I hear light knocking on the wooden door.
"Sophie, can I come in?" Edaline asks tentatively.
"No," I shout, curling into a tight ball. I here her sigh, yet she walks away from the door.
I close my eyes.
Sleep.
Uh.
Why can't I be normal?
~~~I open my eyes to a stream of light, I squint as the brightness sears into my retinas.
I crawl out slowly, I feel dead.
I see Grady and Edaline at the counter.
They get up and hug me, I just stand there awkwardly. Soon we're sitting down, and I nibble the corners of a Switzlemon. (Swit-zle-mon) It tastes like a warm cinnamon bun mixed with hot chocolate. It's absolutely delicious.
"Sophie, what happened yesterday?" Edaline asks, her eyebrows furrow together in concern.
"Um, I really don't want to talk about it, if that's alright," I say, continuing to eat the delicious pastry in front of me.
Grady goes back to reading his scrolls, and Edaline looks out the window.
Guilt nudges me.
"I'll tell you tonight, I just am having trouble processing what happened. But I will tell you tonight," I mumble, Edaline smiles a little, Grady, well he snorts.
Sandor pipes up, "Miss. Foster, you're going to be late if you don't hurry,"
"Oh! Right!" I jump up, slug my bag on one shoulder, and run out the door to the Leap master.
"FOXFIRE!" I scream, sprinting through the beam.
~~~
I arrive. I expect to see Keefe smiling and talking next to Fitz, but my heart sinks like the titanic. He's not here.
Fitz is sobbing, but then he sees me. He runs up quickly. He grabs my shoulders and then hugs me.
"I'm so sorry. I-I heard what happened yesterday," He whispers into my ear.
"Why are you crying?" I whisper.
"Um, just was thinking about Keefe," He whispers back, choking up again.
"Well, we will find him, and then everything will be back to norm--"
"SOPHIE!" I hear a familiar brown haired guy say. Fitz and I both whip our heads to the voice. Fitz clenches his fists and jaw, I ignore him.
"Luis! This is my friend Fitz, Fitz this is Luis," I smile, elbowing Fitz. Fitz glares at Luis.
Luis waves awkwardly.
"Hey you okay?" Luis asks, eyebrows knit in concern.
"Yeah, I'm still processing everything," I say.
"Well, if you ever need anyone to talk to, I'm here," He shrugs.
Fitz barges in, "Thanks, but she already has enough friends!"
Fitz stalks away, dragging me with him. I sigh and give Luis an 'I'm sorry, they aren't usually like this,' look. He smiles and his eyes say 'It's okay, completely understand, talk to you later?' I smile, 'Sure'.
