"Mommy... Daddy.. What's going on!?" The little boy asked as he saw his dad and a man nearly killing each other. The man looked up.
"You're their son? Why you look a lot like the prince.. Either way that is not why I am here. You boy have committed a crime"
"A.. Crime..?"
Yugi tried to sound confused but he knew all to well on what the crime was."I looked around your home but I could not find anything but I did find clay, a pen and some scroll paper. Now why do you have these items!?"
"Well Aknadin, you know I do work with the Pharaoh and when I go on these expeditions to help him achieve his goal, I do find many interesting things for my son to mess with since he is so limited in things" Yugi's father stated coldly.
"No daddy. It's okay. I have been studying ancient writing and hieroglyphics for awhile now.." Yugi finally said.
"You understand your punishment for this, don't you?" Aknadin said.
"Yes.. Extreme whipping, I know. But it's worth it" Tears were now streaming down the poor boy's face.
A rule is that people under the age of 17 especially slaves, could not learn the ancient writing due to them still being naive, no one could trust scroll writers...
They could always turn against their kingdom and break in the shadows
"Tomorrow young boy, I'll be here to get you ready for your punishment. I am on a tight schedule. And for you-" Aknadin points to Yugi's father.
"I'll talk to the Pharaoh about this and see what he wants to do with you"
Aknadin left the home. Everything was silent until-
Yugi was on the floor, his hand covering his face.
"You insolent child! You know how much trouble we're in because of you!? I want you out of here, you understand?!" His father raged.
Yugi's mother protested, letting a 5 year old boy outside in the dangerous desert!? You must be crazy.
"Please darling, we can talk about this"
"No! I cannot have a troublesome kid in this household.."
His father then regretted what he said.
Yugi nodded his head, wiped his tears then took off. The young boy's mother ran out calling him but by the time she did, he was already gone. His father just stood in the room, hiding his saddened face.
.........
Yugi sat near the palace gates, he wanted to be whipped so bad. He wanted to forget what his father had said.
"I'm sorry daddy... Mommy.." He cried.
"So you came instead of me picking you up? Well this is shocking" Aknadin said.
The old man grabbed Yugi's arm then pulled him into the castle. Yugi was frightened but yet he wasn't..
.....
"Hey look it's that kid from earlier" Mana said as she saw a glimpse of him pass their room.
"But he's with Aknadin" Mana added. The prince stopped his work then ran after them. But before he could reach Yugi and the old man, the door slammed shut. "They locked it!" Atem told Mana as he banged his fist on the door with frustration.
"I wish I could help but Mahad is still teaching me the basics" Mana moped.
Atem sighed. He placed his ear against the door, hoping to hear a conversation.
..............
Yugi's small wrists were chained down onto the wall. He was on his knees, his shirt was off, lying on the floor.
"You're the very first child that actually begged for a beating" Aknadin said with a smile.
"I want to forget what my daddy told me. Saying that he can't have a troublesome child like me"
Aknadin made a whistle like noise, soon a man appeared from the shadows with a whip in hand.
Aknadin whispered to the man, telling him what this small child did. The man gave a small nod then opened up the whip.
"Do as you please" Aknadin ordered.
.....
The prince was furious. He sat there for the entire time, listening to Yugi scream and cry but never heard Yugi protest. Young Atem always heard adults or young teenagers receive these punishments. Each and everyone of them always said "no" and "stop", but Yugi however was a special case.
"My son, what are you doing?"
Atem turned around, still his ear on the door, "Remember that friend I made? Aknadin is whipping him all because he got caught studying how to write. He should be able to use his talent father! For a kid his age knowing what each and every symbol is for each and every letter and word, it's astonishing! He's a year younger than I, and I still have trouble to do what he does" Atem explained furiously.
"You really took a liking to this kid, huh?"
The prince nodded.
With a shake of his father's head, he sighed.
"I would do something my son, but if I were to, then any other criminal would have to get the same treatment" his father said.
"Of course you wouldn't do anything! Equality is your best, must keep everything aligned!" Atem shouted.
The pharaoh scratched his head.
Before the pharaoh could say anything to his son, Atem shushed him.
"It got quiet" Atem said.
....
"I hope this taught you young boy to not do this again!" Aknadin said as he slapped Yugi's already pained back.
Yugi flinched as the sensation of pain went through his entire body.Atem stepped back as he heard the door unlock. Once the door opened, Yugi was standing there, nearly keeping balance.
The prince ran to him, asking if he was okay.
"Yes... I'm fine, thank you" Yugi mumbled.
"Here I'll help you outside" Atem tried his best to keep his hands away from the boy's back.
As the two got outside, Mana sneakily following behind, Atem suggested he'll take Yugi home. Yugi shook his head.
"I have no home to go to. My daddy said I was not allowed to go back. I'm just an unwanted kid.. Like always" Yugi explained.
Atem forced Yugi to follow him.
"I'm taking you home, at least halfway distance. I can not go far"
"I understand. Thank you again my prince for helping me.." Yugi said.
"If you're thinking of being a servant makes you lower class, you're wrong. You're equally the same as I in my opinion" Atem let out a soft chuckle.
Yugi kept quiet.
....
"I'll see you hopefully tomorrow Yugi! Farewell!" Atem turned back, still continuing on waving.
"Bye!"
Yugi took a deep breath as he turned around. Seeing his and many other houses in the distance. Yugi walked slowly to his house, getting nervous at each step.
Once he entered his house, he found a small piece of paper that was aligned with golden trim on the edges.
Yugi sat there... Anger filled his body.
