The first game of Quidditch is coming up fast; Slytherin versus Gryffindor. Edward is one of the chasers on the team, so he gladly tells Vanessa all about the game. The whole school seems to be excited for the match.
Vanessa occasionally likes to watch the Slytherin team practice when she doesn't have too much homework. At first Marcus Flint, the captain of the team, didn't want her around. He thought she would be telling the Gryffindors their strategies and whatnot. But Edward had her back.
So the day before the match, the team slips in one last practice. Vanessa is up in the stands with Draco. This is one of the few time Crabbe and Goyle are not around. Victoria is there too, but she is a few rows down talking with one of her friends.
"I think I'd make a great seeker." Draco comments staring out at the seven people flying on brooms.
Vanessa shivers in her spot. Why does it have to be so cold in November?
"Oh, you're cold." Draco comments. "Here," he takes off the hat he was wearing and hands it to her. She slips it on her head.
"My father has taken me to real Quidditch games before." Draco says. "They're quite fun, we should take you along sometime."
"Sounds wonderful." Vanessa smiles.
She looks up and watches as Edward takes the ball, he says it's called a Quaffle, and slings it through one of the hoops. Their team is quite good.
By the time the practice is over, Vanessa's fingers and toes are numb and her stomach is empty. It feels like she ate dinner ages ago. Thankfully, Draco's mom had sent her some treats, so she has those to eat,
"Let's go get something to eat before I die," she jokes, pulling Draco down the stairs of the stands.
"Slow down a bit, won't you, there will still be food when we get there." Draco grumbles. She slows her pace, releasing his hand.
They walk across the school grounds, side by side. Talking about nothing of importance. As they enter the school, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are passing by. Ron nudges Harry and gestures their way, both shooting glares toward the Slytherins. She hasn't spoken to Harry since the duel, but if he's not gonna make an effort neither will she.
"Come on, Draco." Vanessa pulls him toward the way to their common.
Vanessa is quiet as Draco rants about Harry on their way down. These days he rants a lot about her brother. At this point she just nods politely only half listening. Suddenly he stops talking. Vanessa looks over at him in question.
"Does it bother you?" He asks.
"What?"
"Me talking about your brother. Does it bother you? Cause if it does I'll stop." He looks at her.
"No, not at all. Lately my brother had been an arse, I don't care what you say as long as it doesn't insult me." She shrugs.
"Alright." Draco nods, though it seems his rant about Harry is over with, for now.
As Vanessa goes to bed that night she hears a tap on the glass. She sees the silhouette of a mermaid. She pulls out her wand and murmurs "Lumos," her wand glows at the end of it.
She approaches the glass, the light spilling across the figure. Minnow has returned. Vanessa hasn't seen her since the first time.
Vanessa waves and Minnow returns the wave.
How are you? Minnow signs. Vanessa sits on the ground and balances her wand on her leg.
Good Vanessa signs back. She has been reading and studying sign language nonstop since she met Minnow in case she returns. Vanessa is far from being fluent, but she knows the basics.
