Draco hadn't come back till the day before the term starts back up.

"Draco!" Vanessa had rushed up to him, only to stop short and blush. She had been thinking about him a lot more since the mirror.

"Did you like my gift?" He asks casually.

"Yes, I love it so much." Vanessa touches it softly. She wears it as often as possible.

"Okay," he shrugs, hiding a smile. "I got yours by the way. I liked it." He adds, trying to sound nonchalant, but she sees the glint of silver peaking from beneath his robes.

Victoria rushes past them and into The awaiting arms of Edward.

"I missed you!" Victoria exclaims. "How boring it must have been here all alone."

"Nah, Vanessa was great company." Edward releases Victoria. They walk away chatting together.

"How was your holiday?" Vanessa asks Draco.

"Same as usual. And yours?"

"It was lovely, best Christmas I've ever had." She beams.

"Did Potter bother you?" He asks.

"You act like he goes out of his way to do so." She laughs, trying to hide her pain. The mirror had been stuck on her mind all of the holiday. She had gone back to find it, but never succeeding. She wanted to see it again, but something tells her she won't find it again.

They get back into their routine as the term starts again. Draco is back to tormenting everyone. And Vanessa stands by his side, not joining in, but not stopping it either.

"Where are you off to?" Draco asks one evening. They had been sitting in the common room, Vanessa reading and only half listening to Draco talking, when she stood up suddenly.

"The library, I just finished this book and I need another." She holds up her book. She vaguely feels the necklace warm slightly as it adds a new book to the list.

"Why are you reading about goblins?" Draco asks, eyeing her book.

"Because," she rolls her eyes. "Despite Professor Binns being extremely boring, I find the topic that we are learning to be a bit fascinating." She starts to walk away.

"I'm coming too, I'd like to hear more about how this is interesting to you." He says, standing too. "Besides, I have a new curse to try out." He grins. "Crabbe, Goyle, let's go." Vanessa sighs deeply and lets them follow her. Draco coming along is fine, she enjoys his company. But Crabbe and Goyle just annoy her. They don't talk, but their constant presence and no input, it would just be better of they weren't around.

"What's wrong with you?" Draco asks.

"Nothing," she shakes her head. She isn't going to tell Draco he can't invite his friend to hang out with her. They get to the library moments later. As they are about to go inside, Draco nudges her.

"Hey, watch this." Draco gestures toward a figure coming their way. It's Neville Longbottom. Draco pulls out his wand and points it toward Neville. "Locomotor Mortis."

Neville's legs lock together and he pitches forward, spilling his books onto the floor. Crabbe and Goyle laugh loudly.

"I've been looking for someone to practice that on." Draco smirks. "Guess it was your lucky day." Neville just sniffles and cringes away from Draco when he starts to kick around Neville's books.

"Come on, Draco." Vanessa stoops down. "Treat the books with respect." She gather the three Herbology books into her arms. Draco chuckles.

"Wow, Longbottom, not even going to do anything. You aren't nearly brave enough to be a Gryffindor. If anything, you'd belong in Hufflepuff, but you're such a poor excuse of a wizard you don't even belong at this school. You're just a squib trying to be something you're not. Why don't you just join Filch?" Crabbe and Goyle laugh cruelly.
