The next few weeks, Draco plots, trying to find the perfect act of revenge. All the while, the teachers are piling homework on them, so that they're ready for their exams at the end of the year. Vanessa takes her homework very seriously. Draco does as well, most days. When he doesn't, Vanessa reluctantly lets him copy.
She spends the first half of her Easter holidays finishing her homework, and the second half is spent with Draco. Though something quite interesting happened.
They had been studying together, when Crabbe and Goyle pulled Draco away for Merlin knows what.
Vanessa finished with her work before he returned and she was planning on heading out to the lake, to see if she could possibly spot Minnow. She hasn't seem the mermaid for a couple of weeks and she's missed her company.
As she was packing her things back into her bag when she realized Draco had left his bag sitting beside his chair. Not wanting to leave it sitting there, she picks it up and takes it up to the dormitories, dropping hers off first then heading for the boys dorm. She finds the door marked 1 and slips inside. It's empty of any people.
The two beds to the left of the door are messy and cluttered, no way either of those are Draco's bed. They must belong to Crabbe and Goyle. The three bed to the right are tidy and neatly made. She knows immediately that Draco's bed is the one on the far left. The trunk in front of that bed is black with shiny silver trimmings and his initials in silver as well.
She moves that way when the bag slips from her hand, spilling scrolls all over the floor. She silently curses herself. Two of them roll under his bed and another unrolls showing the words written in his handwriting. She scoops up the scrolls, shoving them back into his bag. She picks up the one that unrolled and she glances at it.
It was an essay they had to write for transfiguration, sometime around Halloween she believes. Why is that still in his bag? What really catches her eyes though, is something written in the margin. It's her initials, and then her name, written a few times. Along with small sketches, nothing notable.
She raises her eyebrows at it. She recalls McGonagall needing to talk to Draco on Halloween and he came back red faced. She must have said something about this, McGonagall expects neatness on the essays for her class. Vanessa isn't sure why he would be writing her name on his essays though.
She quickly rolls the parchment back up, shoving it into Draco's bag. Then she moves the curtain of his bed back to get the two that rolled under. As she's sits back up, she notices movement at the ceiling of the bed. She looks up and sees a familiar picture. It's of her on Christmas, wearing her dress and her cloak over it. She smiles and waves in the photograph.
"Vanessa, what are you doing in here?" Draco's voice drawls behind her.
"Draco, I -- er -- I came to bring your bag to your room." She sheepishly holds his bag up. "Where did you get that picture?" She gestures to the photo.
"Oh, that," Draco frowns. "Your friend, Edward, sent me it." He shuffles awkwardly. "I kept it because you're my best friend..." He trails off. Vanessa stares at him. "Well nevermind why I have it, you shouldn't be in here." He takes his bag from her and ushers her out.
The next few weeks, Vanessa pushes the ordeal from her mind, focusing solely on her school work. Draco continues to find a way to exact is revenge against Ron.
One morning at breakfast, Draco and Vanessa pass Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they are talking to each other.
"We've got lessons, we'll get in trouble, and that's nothing compared to what Hagrid's going to be in when someone finds out what he's doing --" Draco had pulled Vanessa to a halt, listening intently.
