This school is the greatest thing in all of existence, at least Vanessa thinks so. Just traveling to her classes is an adventure. Sure other students give her dirty looks if she comes too close, but that is easily ignored. Peeves, the school poltergeist, always makes traveling the halls an interesting ordeal.

There are changing stairs and empty halls a person never knows where they will end up, but Vanessa is always able to find the classrooms easily. Draco usually by her side, and trailing behind them are his two goons. Vanessa had learned that their names are Crabbe and Goyle. They are not smart. Vanessa is sure Draco just has them around for muscle. She doesn't care much for them, but Draco has been a fine enough friend.

Vanessa just adores her classes. Even History of Magic, taught by Professor Binns, a ghost. He drones on and on, making the class very boring, but she would take this class over any Muggle class. The Slytherin classes are always shared with another house. And every time the other house either ignores them or looks at them with fear or hate. Vanessa just ignores them and pays attention to her studies.

Every Wednesday at midnight they go to the astronomy tower and study the sky. It's so beautiful, all the stars and such. They get to learn names of different stars and movements of planets.

They go to the greenhouses three times a week to study Herbology. Their teacher is a short an stumpy witch named Professor Sprout. The class is alright, better than History of Magic for sure.

Charms is taught by a tiny wizard by the name of Prefessor Flitwick. Vanessa couldn't help but roll her eyes when he got so excited calling her brother's name that he toppled off his pile of books and out of sight. Draco thought it was ridiculous as well.

Vanessa can't even take Defense Against the Dark Arts seriously. Professor Quirrell stutters and stammers constantly. Sometimes he can't even finish a whole sentence before he starts trembling too badly.

So far her favorite class, by far, is Transfiguration. She still hasn't had Potions yet, so she'll have to wait and see on that one. But transfiguration is fantastic.

Sitting down in Professor McGonagall's  class on the first day, she stalks in looking as stern as ever.

"Transfiguration is some of the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts," she says. "Anyone messing around in my class will leave and not come back. You have been warned." She shows them an example of transfiguration by turning her desk into a cow then back again. The students on the other hand, too complex notes then given a match to turn into a needle. Vanessa had done it her sixth try. The only other first year to have been able to do it that day was Hermione Granger, the know it all from Gryffindor.

"Well, I'd say you're far better than her on even your worst day." Draco says to her.

"Thanks, Draco," Vanessa smiles.

Friday morning Vanessa is spreading apricot jam on her toast when Draco plops down next to her.

"Ugh, double-potions with Gryffindor, can you believe it?" He sighs. "Thank Merlin Snape's the teacher. He absolutely hates Gryffindors."

The owls come in delivering mail. Vanessa hasn't gotten mail at all the whole week, which doesn't surprise her, and today is no different. Nox swoops up, landing on Vanessa's shoulder. She nips at Vanessa softly.

"Hello, pretty girl." Vanessa rips the crust off her toast and feeds it to the little black owl. Nox ruffles her feathers and hoots happily before flying off.
