Emily

I looked astonished at the boy. He sure was beautiful and in any other situation, I would have probably be at loss of any words about someone as handsome talking to me, but right now.

"Are you crazy!" I whisper-shouted, "Why are you surprising me like that! What if the cyclops heard me?"

To my surprise Joshua started laughing. He is crazy. Totally nuts. What the hell was so funny about the thought of getting killed and probably eaten by a group of cyclops? Actual existing cyclops!

"Don't worry. They can't hear us".

"I know that they already left, but still ... they could hear us".

"No they can't. That golden tree here", he pointed at the tree behind me, "protects us from all kinds of monsters. They can't hear, see nor smell us. We are save, trust me", Joshua smiled brightly and took my hand. "Let's go".

"What? Where?" But without giving my questions even the slightest thought, he got up and dragged me with him. Seriously, what was wrong with the male population today!

Joshua brought me out of the forest onto a huge field. A small path went through the field, hemmed with wild strawberries. The trail ended in a camp. Twelve wooden cabins stood in a half cycle around a huge house. From the distance I could only make out little dots of people. And right behind the cabins started a lake, so huge it seemed endless in my perspective.

Joshua took my suitcase and rolled it towards the camp and I followed right behind. The little dots turned out to be more than just human. At the first glance they seemed normal, but some of them had horns seated on their heads and walked oddly, others were unhealthily green or purple and a lot tinier than me. Satyrs and nymphs. I couldn't help myself but stare at them. Where the hell did I end up?

"Emily, welcome", I tore my eyes from the little pink nymph to my right and nearly screamed. A Centaur stood right next to me, from head to waist a men, but then... the rest of the body ended in the body of a horse. An uneasy feeling spread in my stomach. The centaur must have sensed my uncomfortableness because he tried to crack an assuring smile and continued, "I guess you dad didn't have enough time to explain anything to you? Don't worry, I will answer all your questions and show you around. Ah", he furrowed his eyebrows, "I totally forgot to introduce myself. My name is ..."

"Chiron". A short glance and knew my premonition was right. In front of me was actually Chiron, centaur, thousands of years old and trainer of heroes, and according to historians a myth.

"How did you know?" Joshua looked at me in awe.

"I have been working at an ancient history museum for the last two years", I explained.

"Well, then I at least won't have to start from scratch", Chiron winked and motioned me to follow him. I thirst thought Joshua would leave after bringing me to Chiron, but he followed us as well.

Chiron showed me the cabins, one for each of the great goddesses. The camp was made for the half human children of those goddesses. The, also known as semi gods, kids lived in the cabin, build for their godparent. The main house in the middle was for the teachers and held the kitchen as well as the dining hall. I looked at the training places and Joshua showed me a small path towards the lake. Chiron tried to explain everything to me and slowly the confusing world I stumbled inside started to make sense.

Apparently all of the great and colourful Greek myths weren't as unreal as I thought. Hidden from normal people, and till recently me as well, all those creatures were real. The gods, real. The heroes, real. And all the monsters, real. Great.
