Emily

Outside the main hall stood a bus. It was one of those old, sleazy school buses. Painted in fated yellow and with once fluffy pink seats that, by now were covered with green and grey stains. I could basically feel the old gum under the seats and hear the loud chatter of the students.

"This is our ride?" one of the guys looked at the buss sceptical. I nearly laughed at the horrified look in his eyes. His fried slung an arm around him and dragged him inside, laughing at his antics.

I was about to follow them, when a girls stopped next to me.

"Argh, I hate school buses", she tightly slung her arms around herself, biting her lip in worry.

"How come?" I blurted out without thinking. Why did I do that? Where did that horrible habit of listening on others conversations come from?

The girl turned to me looking confused. "Ahm ... hi?"

"Sorry about that. I didn't mean to ..." I started, getting lost in the middle of my words.

"Oh, no it's fine. I am Minji by the way".

"Emily", I hold out, my hand and she shook it, smiling a bit.

"So... school busses? What's so horrible about them?" I asked, trying to get to know her better.

"I got attacked by a group of basilisks while riding one of those busses when I was twelve. It was horrible, I only survived by luck. Never sat a foot in one of those since then", she shuddered.

"Like in Harry Potter?"

"What?"

"The basilisks, are they like the ones in Harry Potter?"

"What's Harry Potter?"

I froze. "You don't know Harry Potter?"

"No".

"It's a book. Actually a series of books. They even made eight movies".

"Oh. You see, I haven't read books for ages. Neither seen movies".

My moth was wide agape. What kind of teenager doesn't watch movies? I mean, not reading any books is normal for kids, but I didn't know anybody without a TV or a laptop at home. I felt kind of spoilt and conceited.

"Never mind then", I tried to change the topic, "Do you think you will be ok to get on the bus?"

"Yeah. Can you just ... maybe stay close to me?" her voice hitched a bit and at the thought of entering the bus, her face turned all pale again.

"Of course", I smiled assuring and entered the bus.

Just like everything else so far, the bus was not like it seemed. As soon as I sat my first foot inside, the walls seemed to move and the pink sticky seats morphed to comfortable sofas, that were big enough to sleep on them and at the back of the bus a kitchen popped out of the back walls, with a nice long dinner table.

"Wow, this is amazing. How is something like that even possible?" I gaped at the room.

"Gods, they can do pretty much everything", Minji next to me explained. "At least this doesn't look like a school bus from the inside".

She seemed less scared and in panic, but her legs were still a bit shaky so I maneuvered us to the next couch.

"Thanks Emily".

I sat down next to Minji and stored my back bag in the shelf above me. Minji had calmed down and was busy looking around the bus. There were only a few more people inside. The two guy I had seen entering the bus. And Mingyu and Jun, who were joking around with them. My heart jumped when I caught Mingyu smiling at my direction. He looked even more handsome from the front than his profile.

Two girls that looked around my age sat a few couches next to us and were happily chatting around. And the guy who had told us when to leave the hall for our mission. He was the only one who sat alone, his hood hung in his eyes as deep as possible. He sat at the back and looked out of the window.

One more person entered, loudly greeting Mingyu and his friends. "What's up", I recognized his voice immediately. Joshua, the kid who had shown me around camp, on my first day. Apart from being a total jerk, he ignored me as soon as Hera accepted me as one of her child's. So I was pretty sure, he was just like the other kids there, hating me for whose child I was. Obviously he was just like all the other Aphrodite children who ignored me or made fun of me.

I turned to the entrance and was proven right. Joshua had made it halfway to his friends, when his eyes stopped on me.

"Oh, hey Hyun", he smiled at me and winked. Was he talking to me? I turned around to check, but his eyes were right on me.

"My name is Emily. You know should know that", I had my eyebrow furrowed in confusion.

"Oh Hyun, you are popular, but not that popular", he winked again. This guy was seriously annoying.

"Again, my name is Emily. We have already met before, you showed me around camp, remember?" I exclaimed pissed off.

"Sorry Hyun, you can't expect me to remember every girl's name I show around camp", his voice had an odd tone when he said 'show around' and his friends hollered at his words.

Was he seriously just indication that I am just one of his exes? Like I would ever be that desperate and undignified.

I looked over to Mingyu and my hart hurt, when I saw him laughing with his friends at me. Great, Joshua did not only act like an ass towards me, but he had to do it in front of Mingyu. I sung deeper into the pillow of the couch. I just wanted to disappear right here and now.

"Hey! Move it", a girl appeared behind Joshua and pushed him aside, elegantly shoving him away from me and sat down on the empty couch next to me. She had short hair and a long black coat that made her seem mysterious and a lot scarier than her small figure would indicate.

Joshua still laid on the couch, knocked out and his face turned red due impressment. He got up and patted to his friends like a kicked puppy, all eyes on him.

"Thanks", I whispered at her and smiled, "I am Emily and that's Minji".

"Chae", the new girl nodded and leaned back, closing her eyes, like it was no big deal. But a small smile adored her lips.

The rest of team one entered the bus and comfortably sat down on the cushions. One of the last kids to enter, was a girl named Rin, who ran to Minji, as soon as she saw her. "School busses... I am sorry", she muttered.

Minji smiled at her, "I am sorry too, Rin. I am glad you are here, do you know how hard it was to get into this horror vehicle without you by my side, encouraging me". The two hugged for quite some time, making me uncomfortably wriggle around in my seat.

"Emily, that's Rin, she is my best friend and pretty much like a sister to me", Minji introduced us, after the two seemingly reconciled.

"Rin, this is Emily, she helped me with the whole school bus trauma".

"Hey", I grinned back at Rin and shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you".

Minji, forced Rin down, to squeeze on the couch with us and soon the three of us were in a lively conversation about our lives and pasts.

"Rin, I am sorry to ask, but do you know Harry Potter", the question had egged me since Minji told me that the two had been living alone for the last years.

"Sure. I mean who doesn't?", we both giggled at Minjis disbelieving expression, while the bus finally drove off.
