Chapter 21

My eyes fluttered open as I felt light fall upon them. I slowly got up. I took in my surroundings.
Then everything from yesterday came back to me.

I must've fallen asleep because the last thing I remember was praying for Eric.

I looked around and didn't see his parents. I walked up to the reception desk.

"Hi I was wondering if you could give me an update on Eric Martinez's health?"
I asked.
"Yes and how might you be in relation to him?"
She asked. I thought for a moment. If I said I was a friend they surely wouldn't let me in.

"I'm his cousin."
I know it's dumb but it was the only thing I could think of.
"Well he is doing much better than yesterday and we managed to stop the internal bleeding, he will be discharged tomorrow."

"His parents are in his room as we speak you may go and see him."
"Ok thank you."
I said. As I followed the directions to his room.

I took in a deep breath and knocked on the door.

Soon mrs Martinez's face appeared at the door.

"Oh hi Jade."
Some said with a small smile.
"Hi" I replied back mirroring her expression.
"Come in."
She said moving away from the door and opening it wider.

I looked over to the bed and saw Eric slightly sitting up It hurt seeing him like that.
He glanced at me when he acknowledged my presence.
"I think we should give u too some space, we'll be out in the waiting room."
Mr. Martinez spoke leading Mrs. Martinez out of the room.

I sat down at the stool next to the bed.

"Hi Eric."
I croaked out.
"Hey Jade."
He spoke quietly.

It was a couple minutes of awkward silence until Eric spoke.

"Why did you do this to yourself?, i mean look at you your not the Eric I remember. What happened to the boy who loved his life; the boy who cared about others, but most of all the first boy I fell for."

I asked.

"I don't know I guess after you left I was broken."

"Haven't you heard the saying, 'Our hearts are meant to get broken so that the right person can come and fix them.' maybe we just weren't meant to be."

with that I stood up and was just about to walk out when Eric spoke.

"Hey jade, I know you've forgiven me but I was hoping if we could start over as friends."

"Yeah, Id like that too" I said as I smiled and got up.

Once I left Eric' hospital room I went into the waiting and talked to Mr. And Mrs. Martinez they said that because Eric would be discharged I should leave and get some rest. I said my goodbyes and did as I wan told. I soon realized that I hadn't told anybody but my parents where I was. I grabbed my phone and opened it and noticed that I had two missed calls from Cole, I was so busy with is whole situation that I forgot to inform him.
