Georgia frowned as she and Reggie walked down the sidewalk. She held her wrist between her thumb and her middle finger, twisting and feeling for anything that might be out of the ordinary for a person. She felt nothing there. Her wrist was completely normal. Just like Reggie's. she switched her attention from her wrist to the pavement ahead of them.
Many stores lined sidewalk to their left. Some of them diners, others for different items. But one in particular caught her eye. The sign read "Sam's Pawn". She grinned slightly. She knew that pawn shop. She used to go there everyday. Now that she had to deal with this mess...
"Georgia!" Reggie grabbed my shoulder, shaking her back to life. "What?" "You just stopped!" "Oh..." Georgia looked inside the pawn shop. She took a deep breath then took Reggie's hand. "I want to show you something. Follow me." Georgia said, pulling him into the shop.
The bell chimed as they walked in the store. Laughter and commotion came from the back room, loud and clear throughout the shop. The shop was relatively small in the front. There was a glass container wrapped around the store, holding many gold and silver accessories. In the middle stood three shelves, each lined top to bottom of junk. At the other end of the store was a door, most likely where the noise was coming from.
"Georgia..." "Relax." Suddenly, they heard a thump and a loud uproar of men cheering. "HOLD ON! I AM COMING!" A voice yelled. Reggie took hold of Georgia's arm and gave it a slight tug, "Georgia."
A bulky man walked out of the back, scowl on his face and a bruise above his eyebrow. He looked no older than forty years old, with short gray stubble lining the bottom of his face and a buzz cut. He wore a white tank top with worn out blue jeans. He had a mean demeanor about him, and Reggie didn't like it.
The man saw Georgia. His foul scowl turned into a grin, baring all of his yellow teeth. "GEORGIA!" He yelled out. He came out from behind the glass counter and approached her, smiling and arms wide. Georgia smiled back at him and took a step forward, straight into his arms. The man engulfed her with his arms, causing her to grunt. "Ooh! You have gotten bigger." "I am going to take that as a complement, darlin'." "I know you will."
The man pulled back and put a hand on her shoulder, "Enough with the insults, kiddo! Tell me how my abomination has been doing with my evil plans on taking over the world." "Hey, in several more thousand years we could have it topple over!" "Hahaha! That's my girl! Come 'ere, you little monster!" He put her into a head lock, rubbing the top of her head with his knuckles. She giggled and pulled away easily, falling back on to the floor, however.
"Damn, G. When did you get so strong?" "That is actually a long story, Vernon." "Oh, alright. I see. I guess that means it is story time!" Vernon helped Georgia to her feet, "But first..." He looked at Reggie, smirking. "Who is this?" Georgia smiled, "Uncle Vernon, this is Reggie. He is the cop who saved me during the fight between the conduits and D.U.P." Georgia explained. Vernon nodded, taking a step forward. "Is this true?"
Reggie stood up with his back straight then nodded, "Yes, sir." "Have you any idea what this means to me?" "No, sir." "On behalf of my brother, I give you a token of our appreciation." He gave Reggie and hug unexpectedly, causing Georgia to giggle.
"Vernon? You know why I came here, right?" "Ah, yes. I haven't sold it yet. I think your friend here needs a show." Vernon pulled back, turning towards Georgia. He smiled down at her, "The guys are back there. If you want to talk while I am getting it."
