It wasn't easy getting out of the alleyway. It especially didn't help that someone kept lagging behind either. I eventually just pulled him inside a dumpster. The dup soldiers were still there, surrounding us. They were completely unaware that we were smashed together in this small space. And just fyi, THIS IS UNCOMFORTABLE.

I held in a groan as Eugene's elbow slammed into my ribs, "Watch it, would ya!" I had to force myself not to scream. This boy is gonna be the death of me, I swear it. Eugene looked over his shoulder then apologized. I growled then grabbed his arm, "Stop moving! You're gonna lead them right to us!" I whispered.

We were like that for several minutes, quiet and listening. While the soldiers took there sweet ol' time, searching every nook and cranny that wasn't full of blah! Waiting inside this dumpster made my head spin. What was that smell? Rotten eggs? It had to be rotten eggs. I glanced outside. They were still there. Why wouldn't they just leave?

As if an angel decided to answer my wishes, they started leaving. "We lost them. Let's head back." "Damn. I was hoping to finally get these ones."

Eugene released a sigh then smiled, "That...." "....Was awesome!" I finished, getting up on my knees to glance outside. There was no sign of the soldiers. But I wasn't about to leave anytime soon. Who knew what was out there. The soldiers could still be out there, waiting to ambush us. I don't plan to get captured because of a conduit. Nuh-uh. Not anytime soon. "We need to stay here for a few extra minutes. We might run into them if we leave now." "G-Good idea."

I leaned against the side then thought. Fetch. That was what we were talking about before we were chased. I looked at Eugene, "I never got to say what I was going to say. You know. Before we were chased." Eugene blushed and glanced at anything that wasn't me, "G-Go o-on." He said. I grinned then adjusted my position, "Do you perhaps know where Fetch is?" "N-No! I d-don't. Why?" "I was just wondering."

Eugene turned away, "Do y-you think that w-we can... um... leave?" I poked my head over the top of the dumpster then nodded, "Yeah. I think so. Come on." We slowly retreated from our hiding spot. I was weary. We didn't need another run in on those DUPs.

"I think they're gone. For now. Come on. We need to be careful. They know who we are. So they can find us easier." I grabbed Eugene's hand and walked us out of the alley. "Bloody hell. Where are we?" I asked. Eugene looked around, "The Lantern District." He said. I nodded, "I remember this place. I was here as a child." I swung my head to the right, "This way!" I guided Eugene down the streets until we came across a intersection with a lot of tv screens that advertised different products. I smiled, "I think this is the place." I let go of Eugene and ran up to a building.

"I climbed this building as a little girl. I sat on the very top and watched the sun set. Too bad it takes forever for me to climb it." I rubbed my hand against the wall and I smiled sadly. I lived in Seattle as a little girl. Only recently had I returned. Now, all of this was slowly coming back. A pair of hands gently grabbed my waist. I flinched. "R-Relax. It's just m-me." I nodded, "What are you doing?" "D-Do you trust me?" "Yes."

Eugene suddenly shot into the air. I gasped as we ascended into the air, taking in all the lights and people. It was as beautiful as I remembered it.

Our feet touched the top of a building and Eugene reluctantly let go. I stared out towards the city and smiled, "My brother and I, we would climb this building everyday. When we were little." Eugene met up with me at the edge of the roof, "So-" "Thank you, Eugene! I appreciate this." I wrapped my arm around his hip and leaned against him as the sun started to set.

I opened my eyes. Slowly, I sat up and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. "You finally decided to wake up." I turned around to the sound of the voice. Behind me was Eugene, laid up against a wall only a foot away from where I sat. "Eugene?" "Y-Yeah. You fell asleep up here and I-I didn't want to disturb you because you looked so peaceful. So, I stayed." I stood slowly, still fighting against the sleepiness.

Eugene shot to his feet and steadied me on mine. "How long was I asleep?" "A few hours." "I regret sleeping on the roof." I said, popping the kinks out of my spine. Eugene chuckled, "Y-You actually slept o-on me for half the time." "Oh. Well, that explains why it isn't worse." I chuckled. He nodded. "Thank you, Eugene. Again. For the sunset and watching me sleep." I paused a moment then laughed, "That sounded more or less creepy." "Yep." We both chuckled.

I remembered something, "Follow me. I have something to show you!"

I lifted up the door leading to the basement. It wasn't all that heavy. I lied. I needed Eugene to help me out. As I led him through the basement, I was in awe over the amount of space. I hadn't been here since I was little. There were many television monitors everywhere.

"This place is cool." "My brother and I found this place. When we were little. We would spend most days down here. Fixing and building stuff from scrap materials." I stopped in the middle of one of the rooms. I grinned, "I remember a lot about my brother. He was a good man."

I sat down on the cold floor and closed my eyes, "I want you to make memories here too. Make this your base or something of the sort. I want to save these conduits. I want to make sure none of them go through what we've been through." A hand rested itself on my shoulder, "A-And we do it together." I nodded.

"Together."

[I do not know why this took me so long. And I think I could've done a better job at it too. Well, no use dwelling on it now. Until next time...
