"You just don't understand, do you?"
"..."
"Of course, you don't. You're just another criminal Delsin picked off the street again."
"..."
"Dammit."
Jackson jumped after the cop slammed the door closed, obviously pissed. The convict sunk into the couch, hiding her face from his view. The last thing Jackson wanted was another confrontation with Reggie. She couldn't even stand up for herself, for crying out loud. The only chance she actually had to defend herself was when Delsin was around.
Delsin wasn't around.
She didn't have a room to flee to.
If only she stayed in her trash heap.
If she had stayed there, then she wouldn't have to try to defend herself from a cop who wanted her thrown in jail. Jackson curled into the cushions of the couch, hugging her knees. The news, although loud enough be heard in the hallway, was simply background noise to all of her inner thoughts. A loud beeping came from the kitchen moments later, alerting her Reggie was making coffee. Jackson didn't want any, even after she heard him place a cup of coffee down in front of her. The cop flopped onto the couch next to her, staring blankly at the television in front of them. News of Delsin's shenanigans was all they heard; that, and the threat of bioterrorists.
Reggie sipped at the coffee, steaming with heat and a warm aroma that would travel to Jackson's nose. She scowled, not wanting any, but craving it.
If she gave into her cravings, Jackson knew she would fall into her despair. Last time she fell, Jackson had become a criminal. The one type of people who Reggie hated. The one person Delsin defended. Jackson couldn't give in. She knew this would be over soon. Reggie would kick her out, or Delsin would lose whatever use he made of her. If Jackson was being honest with herself, then she didn't want to let go of whatever bond she had with Delsin, even if she didn't get along with Reggie. The longer she stayed off the streets, the longer she could postpone being found by the DUP. All she had to do was stay out of their way, and she'd be fine.
Reggie glanced over at her, eyes scanning her frail form carefully. Jackson was as thin as a toothpick, making her small shirt look mammoth. The cop sighed, pulling at the torn fabric on his pants. "Jackson, was it?" The convict jolted, as if him speaking startled her. She curled deep into the couch, then nodded. "Do you need anything? Food? Water? I can always whip up something while Delsin is out." Jackson shook her head, gaze shooting to the floor. Reggie pressed his lips together, "Are you sure? You look hungry." She nodded, hiding her face from him.
She was lying.
Sunlight beamed in from the sliding glass doors, casting light across the floor, the couch, and glimmered from her glasses. It manipulated the light into colors, staining her cheek with a rainbow. The light bounced at just the right angle to hit him in the eye, drawing his attention to other features on her form.
Jackson's eyes were sunken in, dark blue highlighting underneath. Her cheekbones poked out, and her defined jawline could slice wood. Reggie leaned in to get a better view. The convict noticed, and shimmied away, almost falling off the couch in the process. Reggie returned to his normal position. Now, with the angle of her glasses moved, Reggie couldn't see the reflected light. Criminal.
The cop stood, then went to the kitchen. He didn't want to deal with the criminal in his apartment. Reggie already had so much to deal with. Delsin, his own brother, was a condu- bioterrorist. How was he supposed to cope with this? Both of them could be arrested at any moment, and then he'd never see Delsin again. His brother could be taken away from him by the DUP, and taken to Curdon Cay! He would die there! Reggie would never be able to see him again. God, Delsin. Why are you doing all of this?! We should've found another way! Reggie didn't want to think about what type of torture Delsin would-
