Part 7
'Run, Stacey, run' I said to myself. I ran out of our school building. There was a little hill at the back of our school. I ran into the woods there, as far as my feet could carry.
My life has changed totally. I am no longer Stacey Reynolds who has red hair, brown eyes, kind to almost all with the exception to a few who used to annoy me...,the silent girl, the A grader, music lover and fairly good singer. Instead the whole world will now view me as a fire throwing freak. The one who can't get a hang of her own temper and is able to cause severe damage to life and property.
Here is something worse. I will never be loved ever again!
Uffgh! Forget Tom Westorio. I fear what my own parents might do when they learn about my fire power. Will they turn me to some authorities who would put me in some non-flammable prison? Or worse, some super villain might capture me and make me use my powers against the law.
Either way, my life is ruined.
I don't know how deep into the forest I had run. At one point, I found out that my legs couldn't carry me beyond. I was exhausted and tired. I dropped to my knees. There was cool breeze in the air. The blue sky was filled with clouds. The whole forest displayed calmness. Something I needed most in my life right now. And then, I could hear something. Someone was calling out my name....
My name?!
"Stacey!"
I heard it again. This time loud and clear.
"Stacey, what are you doing in this secluded part of the woods? You didn't think that you could light up the school and get away with it, did you?"
"T...T...Tom...?" I stammered surprised. "What are you doing here?"
"I came looking for you, silly" he said in a careful tone with a serious look on his face.
"But, how did you find me?" I asked.
"You burned the grass along the way you came" he shrugged.
"I did?" I asked puzzled.
"Yup and you would have started a forest fire in here, flame thrower." He said looking around the woods.
They were indeed beautiful woods and it would have been a shame if my fire had destroyed them.
"I am sorry, that was an accident", I said bending my head down in shame and feeling sorry for all that I have done.
"That's alright, I understand. You can trust me" he said as he winked.
"Thank you" I said not sure about what I am thanking him for.
"So, you have fire power uh?" he asked me grinning.
"Yes, I got my powers on my sixteenth birthday" I said standing up on my feet. My knees were a little wobbly and my energy had drained out again.
"That's a wow. Care to show me how you do it?" he asked looking at me, with the curiosity of a 3 year old that I just couldn't refuse.
"I don't really know how I do it, Tom" I admitted truthfully. "I just bring my body heat to my hands and..."
I waved my hands as I collected my body heat and made a motion as if to throw. A fire ball came out of my hands and landed softly on a dry bush nearby.
"...and that's how I do it" l ended my little fire demonstration and focused my thinking on how I should put off the fire now.
"You are amazing" said Tom gazing at me and I felt myself blush at this compliment of his. "You must learn to control your powers though" he said in a concerned voice.
I nodded doubtfully. It's not that easy to keep one's powers under control.
"We must put off this fire now" Tom said frowning as the fire started getting bigger.
"Let's look for some lake or pond around." I suggested.
"Why look for a lake when the trees around have all the water we need?" he asked with a grin.
I did not understand. I gave a blank look at him
"Transpiration? Trees let out water vapour. Haven't you ever heard? I thought you were an A grader" said Tom
I felt flushed. Of course I know what transpiration is. But how is that gonna help put off the fire?
"How is a little water vapour going to put this fire off?" I asked my thoughts out loud.
"Wait and watch, flame thrower" he said as he turned towards the trees.
Then he did something almost extra ordinary. He waved his hands slowly over the grass below. Tiny droplets of water rose from the ground all around me. He motioned his hands as if to pull something from the trees around. Water droplets soon surrounded the air. They went round and round and fused with each other. They swayed along with the movement of Tom's hands and finally resulted in a big blob of water now levitating between his hands.
I was awestruck.
He pushed his hands out front and the big blob of water splashed right into the flaming bush putting the fire off.
I looked at him with my jaw opened.
"What?!" he asked in a low voice, now smiling. "You aren't the only one around with powers."
"What. Are. You?" I asked totally amazed by his ability.
"I am a hydro kinetic. I can control water. Just as you are pyro kinetic – a fire controller. Although, I can't seem to create water. I can only control or manipulate it. How do you create fire?"
I couldn't bring myself up to answer him. I was just too stunned.
Wow, my crush can control water. I am so...not the only weirdo around. Like my life couldn't get any better!
"Stacey? Are you alright?" I heard Tom say.
My fatigue had overtaken me and I fell to the ground blacked out.
