Part 14

"Stacey, why exactly are you shooting fire balls into the water trough?" asked Amber.

She sat on the grass in our backyard observing me.

"Oh Amber, I am just so excited. I can't believe that I am going to sing before all that people. Crowds make me nervous." I said pacing up and down and occasionally shooting fire balls into the water trough.

"You cannot be nervous. You shouldn't. Else you'll turn the charity event to a fire show event." Said Amber.

"I know. I know. But, I am controlling my powers now. I won't let my emotions control me again. One wrong move and I'll destroy the entire show and Tom will never forgive me. Ever." I said rubbing my hands together.

"Speaking of Tom, You have a message from him" said Amber handing out my phone which I had kept on the ground near her.

'Ready for tomorrow? BTW they have a dress code for the event. You'll be required to wear a dress. Sorry for the late info :('

I read the message out loud for Amber to hear.

"But you don't have a dress" said Amber looking at me.

It was true. I don't have a dress. I like to dress up in jeans and tops, not in dresses.

"Mom, I need a dress" I asked my mom, the first thing when she entered home.

Most of the funds from the charity event were supposed to go to the hospital where Mom and Dad are working. So, they knew about the charity event.

"You are singing at the charity event? Unbelievable! Stacey, I am so proud of you, honey" exclaimed my dad on hearing the news. "Rachel, why don't we go to the mall to get her a dress?"

And so we left for the mall. That evening we searched each and every shop for a dress to wear to the charity event. Finally we found one. It was a red dress. Not so simple. Not too expensive. But perfectly dainty for the charity event night.

The next evening, I dressed up in my red dress. I paired it off with my mother's pearl necklace and earrings. My red hair curled a bit at the ends to give it a wavy look, lay along my shoulder.

At two minutes to four, I was at the silver skate hall, where we had the charity event. Tom was already there with his band.

"Stacey" called out Tom as he waved to me from a distance.

I went towards the place where he was standing along with his band mates.

"You look gorgeous" he said as I came closer.

I tried not to blush at his comment.

"Thanks" I replied.

"I want you to meet my band. This is Tyler, the guitarist, Luke, the base guitarist; Rivern plays the keyboard and Cube the drummer. Guys, this is Stacey".

"Hi" I said to them.

"Hello, that's a nice dress" said Tyler. The others followed suit. I liked them all. We had a nice evening together. Tyler, Luke and Rivern were all Tom's classmates and his best friends. Cube was a junior. He lived in Tom's neighborhood and was his best friend from childhood.

People had started to come. Ours was a small town, so any event here was known to all. Almost everyone in town will come to see the elementals perform tonight.

The event began soon afterwards. First there were speeches by the Mayor and a few other big shots of our town. Then, the stage was given over to the elementals to perform.

The band performed an opening number and that was enough to turn the crowd's attention towards us. Then came my song. My hands trembled a bit as held the mic. Tom stood near me. He smiled as he gave me a thumbs up. The music started and Tom began his verse. I followed him. It was a tremendous feeling. I have always wanted to sing, but was too timid to let myself out. Now, I was singing. Before the whole town. The thought was overwhelming. Suddenly, my hair started to glow. The hair falling across my shoulders gave a faint orange glow. Thanks to all the focus lights, no one seemed to notice my hair glowing. Our song got over and the crowd gave a big applause. People shouted their appreciations.

As I went downstage, people shook my hand and applauded my singing. I was so happy. Ryan was there too.

"That was some awesome singing Stacey" he said as he came towards me.

"Thank you Ryan" I said smiling.

"Guess who won the Science fair this year?" he asked with a sly smile.

"O my gosh, Ryan, you won?" I asked cupping my hands over my mouth in surprise.

"Yup" he said with pride.

"Congratulations Ryan" I said happily.

"Thank you but I couldn't have done it without you. How about I treat you to dinner at the new china place in our town?" he asked wanting to repay my help.

"That's not really necessary Ryan. I am happy that you won." I said not wanting to give him any trouble.

"Oh come on, Stacey. I know you love Chinese food. Consider it my treat." Ryan insisted.

I do love Chinese and I was thinking of going to the new china place myself.

"Tomorrow 7 o clock. Okay for you?" he asked.

"Can Amber come too? She loves Chinese too" I said.

"Sure. She can come too" he agreed.

"Okay then" I said smiling.

Ryan gave me a courteous nod and went back to talk with some other friends of his.

Tom and his band mates were busy talking with their manager. It was already late and so I decided to leave. I texted Tom that I was leaving.

So soon?

Came the reply instantly. He was standing near the stage with his band mates and his manager. He said something to them and came towards me.

"I think it's time to go home. Thanks for letting me sing with you." I said.

"It was nothing. The boys and I are really happy that you agreed to sing with us. Like I said before, you have an amazing voice" he said.

I smiled.

My phone jingled. I looked at it.

"It's my dad." I said to Tom. "He is waiting for me at the parking"

"You better be going then" he said.

I nodded as I took my leave.

Did you know that your hair glowed at the middle of our song?

Tom texted me an hour later. I was in bed, ready to go to sleep.

Yes. It glows when am angry or happy.

Back then, were you angry or happy?

He asked.

Definitely happy.
