Part 11
The next day I hardly paid any attention to my English class. I sat with my head propped up by my hands. Amber passed me a note.
Cheer up girlie! We'll find the right prince.
I had told Amber about last evening and how Tom Westorio has decided to remain single, which would now affect my curse, as I haven't loved anybody in my life except Tom.
But, Amber suggested different. Optimistic as always, she strongly believed that Tom may not be the right prince.
"Maybe there is someone else. Someone, who is your true love, who will come exactly at the right time to break your curse, just like a Disney fairytale." She had said earlier.
Maybe Amber is right. There is a chance that Tom might not be my perfect prince, who would save me from my curse. May be the right prince hasn't just arrived in my life yet. He might have got lost in a forest or something, I presume.
After class, I was standing by my locker when Tom came over. He was dressed in a bright blue t shirt and black jeans.
"Hi flame thrower" he said in a husky voice.
"Hi" I said politely.
"I can't come over to train you today. I have got my band meeting and loads of other works...." He went on rambling about his busy evening.
"Tom" I said closing my locker. "It's okay. I can train myself. I don't need you every time I use my powers."
Tom looked shocked. My reply was not something that he had expected.
"Okay. Catch you later" he said turning around to go.
I sighed as I watched him leave.
"Stacey" came another voice from behind me. I turned around to see Ryan Edward, my lab partner.
"Hi Ryan" I said. "What's up?"
Ryan was the brightest student in our class. He had this sand brown messy hair, brown rimmed glasses and a smart expression on his face.
"I ..I am kinda in need of your help" he said with his one hand at the back of his head.
"Sure, I would love to help" I said.
"Really?! ...I mean that's great. Can I meet you at the chemistry lab after school then?" he asked.
"Okay, I will be there." I said.
Ryan smiled and waved me a bye. He left to his class.
Later that evening, Ryan and I stayed back the chemistry lab. There was this Science Fair going to be held at our town this weekend and Ryan was presenting a project there.
"This is my project" he said showing me an A3 paper with lot of designs on them. It was a rough sketch of a robot dog module.
"A robot dog. That's so cool" I said. "What does it do?"
"Play and sleep. You don't have to worry about feeding it. My brother helped me come up with the design." He said taking out a half-finished project from his bag.
"There is something wrong with my calculations. Now I have to assemble it all again" he sighed.
"Hey, I am here to help. You'll finish this project in no time." I said and that cheered him up.
"Okay, let's get this project started all over again." he said back in his elements.
We assembled all the ICs and the resistors and the various tiny parts once again.
"Oh no!" cried out a frustrated Ryan, all of a sudden.
"What happened?" I asked.
"My robot Dog is missing its tail." He wailed.
"Where did it go?" I went over to his side to inspect the tailless little robot dog shape like a pug.
"I forgot to weld it" he said with his hands on his head.
"I think there is a welding machine at our school's storeroom. I can weld it for you." I offered.
"You can weld?" asked Ryan looking at me wide eyed.
"Of course. I have seen my uncle doing it a hundred times." I said shrugging.
Honestly, I haven't tried doing it all by myself. But I could give it a try. There is a first for everything.LOL.
"Here" he said handing me his precious project carefully.
"I will be back in a jiffy" I said as I took the project from his hands and headed out to the store room.
The storeroom did have a welding machine but I didn't know it was broken. I stood in the store room thinking, when an idea struck me. Sure, it was worth a try. I went back and closed the store room door. I put on a safety mask. I just needed to bring out the right intensity to flame from my fingers to melt out the metal rod. With great concentration, I finally succeeded. The little tail now sat perfectly on the robot dog's butt.
I went back to the lab.
"Hey Ryan, I fixed your dog's tail" I said gleefully.
"Awesome" replied Ryan, happy at his now whole invention. "Thank you so much, Stacey." He said inspecting the little robot at arm's length.
"It's my pleasure" I said, happy finally having used my powers for something constructive.
Ryan's robot dog was now complete. There was a bit of programming to be done. But, Ryan said that he could make his brother do that part for him.
After wishing him a very good luck, I left to home.
