Part 13

Tom removed his shades as he got out of the car. He wore a sky blue shirt, with his sleeves rolled up and paired off with cream colored denim.

He looked around the place for a moment or so. I ducked and let the terrace wall hide me from his view. After few minutes, I heard footsteps approaching the staircase. I went around quick and hid behind the open terrace door. As soon as he entered the terrace, I peeked out.

"Boo!" I shouted behind his back.

Tom turned around startled. I came out of my hiding and started laughing.

"Stacey, you scared the elements out of me!" he said, still with the startled look.

I only laughed more.

"Gotcha" I said smiling.

"You really did" he smiled back.

"How did you know I was here?" I asked him as I directed him to a place where we can sit down.

"I have seen you around here often. I have always wondered what you were doing here. I mean, this place has been abandoned for a decade now. One day, I came here and heard someone singing. Imagine my surprise, when I found that it was you. You have an amazing voice." He explained.

"Tom Westorio" I said looking at him with a serious face and hands on my hips. "Were you spying on me?"

Tom was taken aback.

"No..No.. I wasn't spying. I was just driving around when I heard you sing. I couldn't help, but stop to hear."He justified himself.

I suppressed a light laughter.

"It's the truth" he made an action as if to cross his heart.

"Okay Tom, I believe ya" I said chuckling.

Tom sat down on one of the empty containers which served as a stool for us. I dragged one near to him and sat down too.

"Why do you wear blue most of the time? Is it because you have water powers?" I asked observing.

"Yeah kinda" said Tom smoothening his shirt.

"Water is colorless, you dumbo" I said hitting him playfully.

"Well, they are blue when they reflect the sky." he said grinning.

I raised an eyebrow in question.

"I like blue" he shrugged.

"You like grey" I said in a statement.

Tom looked at me puzzled.

"How do you know that?"He asked surprised at my knowledge of his favorite color.

"Heard you say so....once" I shrugged too.

My reply didn't seem much of satisfactory to him but nevertheless he didn't probe into it.

"Nice guitar" he said as he noticed my guitar and stretched his long hands to pick it up. He strummed a few chords closing his eyes.

"Play something for me" I asked.

He stopped for a second and started a new tune.

It was a familiar chord, one that belongs to a song composed by his band 'the elements'. That song became a hit amongst our town folk. I alone have heard it almost a hundred times.

He started to sing the verses. His voice was so dreamy. He signaled me to join along. I joined in the second verse and together we sang the entire song.

"You have a perfect voice" commented Tom "It is a miracle that I have found you at this right time."

"What right time?" I asked back.

"We are still in need of that lead singer. Tomorrow 'the elementals' has a performance at the town's charity event. I want you to sing there." He said smiling.

My jaw dropped open.

Me? Sing? At the charity event?

"Is it okay for you?" he asked little doubtful and worried that I might say no.

"Yes, okay, I'll come" I said nodding my head still unable to believe that I decided to say yes.

"Okay" he said smiling. "Meet you tomorrow at 4:00pm. The song is the same so you won't need any practice. I'll introduce you to my band mates."

"Okay" I said smiling back.

I am singing in Tom Westorio's band? Oh man! This is an honor. A dream come true!
