"Eeeeeee!" Erica squealed through the phone.
"Does that squeak mean that Sarah's back or some weird vampire thing is going on?" Mckenzie asked.
"I just read online that Dirk Baddison is making an appearance!" Erica screeched. "Dirk Baddison! From Dusk! Can you believe it?"
"I'm pretty sure that's just a rumor." Mckenzie answered.
"How would you know?" Erica asked.
"Cause Ethan and I started it." Mckenzie said sheepishly. "He wanted to lure Sarah back. We needed to know if she was okay. It's our fault Sarah drank human blood. Don't get mad."
"I don't get mad, I get hungry." Erica said.
"So...what'd you get for Christmas?" Mckenzie asked, desperately trying to change the subject.
Erica squealed. "Duskeverything! What did you get? You know, besides a boyfriend." Mckenzie could practically hear Erica's smirk through the phone.
"Shut up." Mckenzie said, rolling her eyes and smiling. "I didn't get anything good."
"Nothing compares to love." Erica teased.
"I'm hanging up on you." Mckenzie said, pressing the end call button on her phone.
Truth be told, Mckenzie and Erica had gotten very close over the time Sarah had been MIA and Bella had went on a cruise with her parents over the break.
Mckenzie realized in this time that Erica had a good heart, but put up a tough front, much like herself.

"Of course I'm glad she's back." Ethan said at school the next day. "But, I don't know, she seemed, different." Benny shot a spell into Ethan's locker. "Okay, cut it out."
"Just testing something out." Benny said. "I was trying to summon a chick to make you feel better and..."
Ethan pulled a chick—a baby chicken—out of his locker.
"Focus, Benny." Ethan said. "I'm worried about her."
"Sarah's probably just traumatized." Mckenzie said, taking the chick from Ethan. "She'll need time to adjust."
As if on cue, Erica, Bella, and Sarah came by Ethan's locker, laughing about something.
"Adjustment complete." Benny said. "Vampires—and the lone fairy of course—happy happy."
