Being a male on a cheerleading squad was a quite difficult thing to accomplish.

Kim Jongin knew it well.

He entered freshmen year determined to make the squad, but was shot down the moment he approached Mrs. Jung, the cheerleading coach, on the premises that he was a male and that it wasn't socially acceptable.

Jongin was so heartbroken, and the news spread like wildfire throughout every grade. Hushed whispers turned to determined voices shouting out against the coach, saying that cheerleading can be a coed sport, and that Kim Jongin had every right to try out as any other person attending their school.

The coach eventually got fed up with the constant banging at her door with kids who tried to stand up for Jongin's rights, and she allowed the boy to come to try outs.

What she didn't expect was that Kim Jongin wasn't the only male to try out. Several males from different grades joined Jongin and eight of them ended up making the team with their strong voices, dazzling smiles, and perfect choreography.

Thus, Seoul High School Cheer Squad was now a coed team, and was now able to compete in completely new competitions that could take them across the nation with enough practice. The original cheer squad had quite a few national trophies under their belt, and with eight new male, cheerleaders, they knew they were going to have to step it up.

And surprisingly, the students mingled well.

They agreed to stay later for practices to teach the new cheer and dance choreography. They brought in a tumbling coach to work with the boys and once they were comfortable enough, they started working with more complicated stunts that would only be successful with the help of the opposite gender.

Their first year as a coed team they made it to nationals and competed, getting seventh place in their division. The following year they made it up to fifth place, just a few away from getting a trophy, but this was their third year as a coed team, and they weren't just looking for any win--they were shooting for first place.

Go big, or go home.

Jongin is now the co-captain of the team, even if he is only a junior. He is second in command behind Jessica Jung, who has worked with Jongin the most in his past years on the squad.

The two are putting up posters around the school, looking for young students with talent to join the squad, since they lost a small portion of their star athletes after the previous graduation, but they're also putting up posters looking for managers who can help work with their coach to ensure each athlete is ready to go when the time comes.

Kyungsoo has looked at those posters for the past three years, wishing he was talented enough to join such a large, widely known squad. He wishes he had some sort of flexibility, or maybe rhythm would be nice, but he's lacking in both those areas.

Being non-athletic was something Kyungsoo had come to terms with a long time ago.

Kyungsoo sighs and stares glumly at yet another poster that hangs on the front wall in the lunch room. He rests his head in his palm, staring at the bright neon letters printed on the poster, asking students to try out for the squad.

"Would you please stop looking so damn pitiful and try out for the fucking team."

Kyungsoo glares at the tall male who sits down beside him. Chanyeol bumps Kyungsoo's shoulder before looking excitedly down at the tray of food before him.
