A wolf no one has ever seen and lived to talk about.

A wolf, which who the village has a pact with.

Kyungsoo washed his hands and hurried out the small cottage. His mother pulled him towards the center of the village and halted near the platform. The governor began to stand and projected his voice, "Silence!.....This year we have much to thank...the harvest has been excellent and we've lost no one to plagues. We all know who to thank...The Wolf!...and that is why I ask a sacrifice of you....As the previous years, we will select a name from the jar...and that person will have the honor of being the wolf's."

Kyungsoo scoffed lowly, "He forgot 'meal'...Why do we have to do this? What does he even do?" Kyungsoo's mother sighed and whispered, "He doesn't attack us throughout the year and he certainly destroys any crop that becomes infected. Do you think that one vine of grapes infested with illnesses would escape our harvest on its own? No, he gets rid of them before they infect our other food. He's our guardian." Kyungsoo sighed and shook his head as he watched the governor reach into the jar and pull out a piece of paper before reading from it, "Do, Kyungsoo!"

Kyungsoo's eyes widened and he shivered as all eyes landed on him. His mother's face went pale and her arms wrapped around him instantly, "No! Not my Kyungsoo!" The other elderly women surrounded them and gently pulled her away from him. Kyungsoo remained frozen as the men surrounded him and the governor approached him, "Kyungsoo...it appears that you will have the honor of meeting the wolf this year." Kyungsoo shook his head and began tearing, "No! You can't do this! I contribute to this village! You can't feed me to that beast!"

The people gasped and the governor frowned, "I suggest you remain silent and simply accept the gift you've been given. Not everyone will have this honor." Kyungsoo glared at the governor and scoffed, "If it's such an honor to be a wolf's feast, then you go instead!" The men enclosed around him and quickly restrained him. Kyungsoo trashed as much as he could but it was no use. The governor sighed and frowned, "This is your fate, not mine...." The governor turned to the men and cleared his throat, "Shower him and dress him in the finest silks we have."

Kyungsoo gazed at his mother with teary eyes and approached her, "Mom...I'm sorry. I wish I would have never fought with you for all those little insignificant things...I wish I had more time to make it up to you...I'm sorry for not being a good son..." His mother hugged him tightly and pulled away to cup his face, "You were an amazing son...I wish we had been born into a different place...so I could keep you by my side for the rest of my life...." His mother reached down for a basket and handed it to Kyungsoo, "Offer him this...perhaps he will be gentle when he..." Kyungsoo frowned as his mother sobbed, "It's okay...as long as you're okay...whatever happens to me...doesn't matter...Thank you, mother."

Kyungsoo bowed and gazed at the village's people standing behind his mother. He turned around and walked into the forest. He could hear twigs snapping faintly and slowly as he walked deeper into the forest. The sun was now above his head and the walk was beginning to tire him. He halted by a rock off the side of the path and sat down, breathing in slowly and closing his eyes. He could hear steps approaching and slowly opened his eyes. The sounds stopped and he sighed in defeat, "I know you're there...I'm your feast...at least have the courtesy of attacking me directly and not from behind."
