I woke up seated beside her bed holding her hand. She was staring at me. I showed her my best smile making sure my eyes smile too just like when Seungcheol smiles really happily.
"You're my husband, right?"
"Ne."
"Where is your ring then?"Her question shocked me. She didn't ask anything yesterday when she gained consciousness again. Now, she's asking.
"My ring? It was destroyed during the accident." I said confidently.
"I see. What's my name?"
"You're Y/N Choi." I answered and she smiled as if she was hoping for that answer.
"I thought you're just taking advantage of my memory loss. I don't remember much about us. How did we meet?"
"Well, you were a English tutor. My nephew became your student and that's how I met you."
"Right. I remember being a tutor. I'm sorry I can't remember anything."
"Yah. Don't apologize. It's not your fault. It's my fault. I shouldn't have let that happen to you."
"Help me remember everything."
"I will." I said taking her hands.I will replace every memory of Seungcheol with a memory of me. Y/N will remember nothing about him. She asked and asked. I made up and made up. A lie after a lie, then another lie after that lie. She believes me. She trusts me. She can't trust anybody else.
We're alone at home now. Areum went back to Seoul with her brother, but Jinseok will be back tonight to pretend again. We've introduced him as her nurse. She believed. Everything is happening as I want it to.
She often stares at her ring. I don't know why. Sometimes she stares at me. Sometimes she cries, and she says her head just hurts too much. I always kiss her head to comfort her.
I tried cooking for her, but I can't get how Seungcheol cooks for her. She said it tastes different. It's still hard to compete with that dirt even when she's here with me now. But, I'm not giving up. Soon, I would be able to erase Seungcheol from her memory completely.
