Chapter 29

Pippa explained everything, since I'm at such a loss for words. "Pippa, why..how..?" I trail off, trying to get an answer as to how she heard me.

"I know when my sister is in trouble..and I checked outside the stagedoor to have you come inside, and that's when I heard you're screams a few buildings away." She chuckles.

"Well, thank you..so, so much." I say, squeezing her hand. "Anything for you." She says, leaning her head on my shoulder. Then, Lin gasps and yells, "Crap I gotta be on for History Has it's Eyes on You!"

I laugh, and sigh. Anthony kisses me once again and says, "We'll finally get a restraining order." I nod and smile as I single tear streams down my face. Soon, everyone goes on for 'Yorktown'. Jonathan continues to comfort me and make me laugh. I love this cast.

The show ended and everyone keeps checking on me. I keep saying I'm fine, but I'm not. Not at all. I can't wait to file that restraining order.

Lin takes Anthony and I home, since I'm don't feel safe walking or taking an Uber or taxi. He drops us off, and Anthony rush up to our apartment. We listen to the radio and cuddle up with some hot chocolate.

I gasp when I hear the intro to 'Wlidest Dreams'. I bolt up and hold my hand out to Anthony. "I don't know, Jas. I can't dance." He shrugs.

"Anthony, c'mon! It's just us! No one is watching. Give it a try, for me?" I say, giving a puppy dog face.

He laughs, skakes his head and grabs my hand. We push the couch out of the way and start dancing. We ball room dance to a pop somg, weirdly.

"..and 1,2,3 and 1,2,3.." I say, as Anthony's right hand is on my waist and mine on mine on his shoulder. His left intertwined with mine, holding up our hands.

I look at our feet and smile. Soon, I feel his eyes staring at me. I look up. He's still the handsome young stranger I met almost 4 months ago. Next thing I know, our lips are together, just like when Daveed and Oak caught us. I like it.

"I want to be with you for the rest of my life." Anthony whispers. I smile and say, "Me too." And continue kissing him. "No-like seriously." He says as he gets down on one knee. I choke on air. The only thing I do is run out of the apartment.

"Jasmine!" Anthony calls after me. I only keep running as I grab my phone and coat. I run to the theatre. I am cautious, in case I get pulled into an alley. I make it there okay. I run to the stage, throw my coat on the seats. I turn on 'I Dreamed a Dream'.

I take center stage. "I dreamed a dream in time gone by..."

Sooner than I know it, I'm singing, "But the tigers come at night..."

"With their voices soft as thunder.. as they tear your hope apart..as they turn your dream to shame." I hit the high not perfectly when I sing 'shame'.

"And still I dream he'll come to me..and we will live the years together.." I look at my locket that was hidden under my coat. "But there are dreams that cannot be!" Tears start streaming down my face.

I skip a few lines and burst, "I had a dream my life would be..so different from this hell I'm living! So different now," I calm down and sing, "Than what it seems.."

I get a good look at the locket. "Now life has killed the dream.. I dreamed." I sob into my hands. I'm not ready for marriage. I want to spend the rest of my life with Anthony, but not yet.

That's when I hear slow claps coming from the left wing. I jerk my head to see Lin, leaning against the stairs, and clapping. I quickly wipe my tears. "What are you doing here?" I ask, looking down.

"Jasmine, why are you here?"

I stay silent for a moment, but then, I run into and collapse in Lin's arms. I sob, "I think Anthony was going to propose but I'm not ready! I'm still young! Just when things were getting better, I just stormed out on him."

Lin strokes my hair as Pippa did earlier today, and says "Just say that you want to get engaged later. He'll understand. I know Anthony."

"I do too." I say, gripping his jacket.
