Chapter Nineteen

Eren was whining again. "But Levi..." he complained, wrapping his arms around the shorter man's waist and trying to pull him back into the house.
"No Eren! I've already told you; I'm going to work no matter what. Nothing will change that. I'm not sick enough to stay home yet."
Both of them were dressed in their Survey Corps Uniform, although Eren was not pleased to hear that Levi was going to be attending as well.
"What if something happens to you?" Eren whined again. "I don't want you to get hurt.."
"I'll be fine Eren!" Levi exclaimed. He turned around and pecked Eren's lips quickly. Now get in the car- you have training and I need to catch up on all the work I've been missing." Eren sighed and loosened his grip around Levi's waist, getting into the passenger seat of the car. Levi climbed in beside him and drove to the training grounds, where he parked his car and climbed out.
"Good luck Eren. I won't see you today, because more likely than not I'll have to report back to Erwin, but maybe I'll see you at lunch." they hugged each other and then went their separate ways.

Levi was looking at the clock, waiting for the inevitable moments when the clock would hit nine and Erwin would come into the room demanding to know exactly where he'd been. Sure enough, the tall blond burst in minutes later.
"Levi! It's good to see you again!" his voice was thick with sarcasm, and Levi narrowed his eyes as Erwin made himself comfortable on the plush sofa in the corner of Levi's office.
"I'm sorry if it was inconvenient to you commander but I was rather busy with looking after that brat, as well as personal matters." Levi felt bad for calling Eren a brat; but if he didn't want Erwin to get suspicious about their relationship he had to act the way he normally would.
"And would those personal matters have anything to do with the fact that Eren was staying at your place?" Erwin was still staring at Levi, who was glaring back with his eyes narrowed.
"No." he replied shortly.
"Levi we need to get it on record- why exactly were you off for so long?" Erwin was beginning to stress out, if Levi decided to stop coming to work the whole Survey Corps would be majorly screwed. And also, there was something about that raven haired man that intrigued Erwin, and he wanted to see if he was right. Letting Levi go would be out of the question for the commander. For the time being anyway.
"It was a health issue. I'll be taking a more permanent leave when I see necessary." Erwin's questions were starting to get on Levi's nerves. He wanted the conversation to be over as soon as possible so he could take a few pain killers and relax for a bit. He didn't have any meetings until after lunch break, so maybe he would get a chance to rest. He had only got to work and already his head was throbbing.
"What do you mean permanent leave Levi?" Erwin looked confused. "Surely you can't be considering retiring!"
"Erwin I would rather not discuss this- but I get the feeling you won't leave me alone until I tell you. I have brain cancer and may be dying" Levi spoke sharply, and tried not to react at the emotion that Erwin's face and voice were full of. For a moment Erwin just stood staring at the smaller male I front of him with an expression of disbelief on his face. Levi started pretending to read the papers that were in front of him. Maybe if he looked busy Erwin would get the hint and leave.
The words swam in front of him, not helping his already aching head. Levi swore under his breath. He had to keep a handle on things, he couldn't let himself pass out at work. He looked around the office briefly, Erwin seemed to have gone- maybe a quick nap wouldn't harm...
Levi closed his eyes and within seconds he was out for the count
