Even the Strong Cry

Chapter Twenty Four

Levi and Eren kissed for what seemed like an eternity, and it would have been longer if Eren hadn't felt Levi go weak in his arms. He smirked slightly, he never knew Levi to be submissive but Eren was certainly not feeling any resistance as he moved his tongue into Levi's. He sucked on the older man's tongue gently, but as he realised that Levi wasn't responding he pulled away.
"Levi?" he asked cautiously. Levi mumbled something unintelligible as a reply.
"Levi? Answer me!" Eren shook him roughly, but Levi didn't even notice. His breaths were sharp and every one seemed to be causing him great pain.
"Levi please wake up!" tears filled Eren's eyes.  He hurriedly got up and grabbed the phone "Hanji can you get over here quickly?" he sobbed. "I'm at Levi's. Yes there's something wrong!" he yelled down the phone. "Please get here as quick as you can.." Eren hung up and sank to his knees crying. After he heard a loud thud coming from Levi's office Eren got to his feet again and rushed in.
"You're going to be ok Levi- Hanji is on her way."
"E-Eren..."Levi croaked hoarsely. He was lying on the ground and blood surrounded him.
"No! This can't be happening!" Eren kneeled down beside him, not caring that his jeans were getting covered in blood. He cradled Levi in his arms and kissed his forehead gently .
"S-sing..." Levi mumbled. Eren nodded sadly and sand the song that he had sang earlier. As he got the the chorus he didn't even know if Levi could still hear him but he sang anyway. I have died everyday, waiting for you. Darling don't, be afraid I have lived you for a thousand years...
"You sing well Eren," Hanji commented from the doorway.
"Hanji help him please!" Eren exclaimed. "He- he just, collapsed!" Eren was sobbing again and his tears were running down Levi's face.
"I sorry Eren, there's nothing I can do." Hanji said sadly.
"The part of his brain that controls movement has stopped working; that's how he must have hit his head, he fell." she said after a moment of examining him.
"And the part of his head that he hit is where the brain stem is and it controls breathing. If it's damaged he won't last more than a few hours."
"NO! I refuse to let him die," Eren cried. Hanji put her arms around him kindly.
"I'm sorry, I'll take him to the surgery but it's risky. He might not survive the move."
"I want to be with him, can he stay here?" Eren asked shyly.
Hanji nodded, and then Levi started gasping dramatically.
"His lungs are filling up blood, he has internal bleeding!" Hanji exclaimed.
"Eren please step outside the room." Eren obliged, although rather unwillingly.
A few minutes later Hanji came out with a grave expression on her face. "I'm sorry Eren. He's gone."
Eren barely registered her words. His head was pounding and his heart was aching. He sank to his knees and just let the tears flow. Life would never be the same for that young boy and he hated that. He wanted nothing more than to be with his love and he would do whatever it took to achieve it.
