CHAPTER 34

As Sujata lay on bed thinking over what Annapurna disclosed..........

Her mind went back to the day, years ago, when her sister informed her excitedly, that she was pregnant with Durga Prasad's child. Sujata was horrified because her sister had not yet married but Mohini had been in seventh heaven. She had wanted to share the news with her fiancé. Sadly, the demise of Durga Prasad's father prevented her from sharing it with him. Both families had decided to postpone the wedding. Mohini had been tensed and had asked Durga Prasad to meet her secretly in the village. She used to stay in her village in those days and Durga Prasad used to stay in Kolkata. The business responsibilities had not allowed him to take time off and he had sent his brother Ram Prasad instead of him. Sujata and her sister had met him outside the village in a temple. It was the first time that Sujata met her husband and they had been attracted to each other instantly. Seeing her fiancé's brother, Mohini had not said anything about her pregnancy. Since that day, Ram Prasad had kept in touch with Sujata, trying to charm her. The lives of both sisters took diametrically opposite directions. Sujata's life took a rosy turn whereas Mohini's life took a painful turn. She and Durga Prasad had not got enough time to meet to each other. Her parents had been approached with a proposal from an influential and political family. When Mohini turned it down, she had been threatened and bullied by local political leader with dire consequences. She was told that they would harm Durga Prasad if she did not marry. Sujata had not been aware of the turmoil in her sister's life and she came to know about it only after her sister agreed to marry someone else. She had tried to talk to her but Mohini had been too scared and had ended up marrying another man. Ten days after her sister's marriage, Durga Prasad had married Annapurna. A year later, Ram Prasad had married Sujata. One evening, two years after their marriage, Sujata informed Ram Prasad that the baby her sister gave birth to was his brother's. Ram Prasad had been astounded and he had told his brother. A month later Suraj's parents were killed in a car accident. Sujata could not help wondering now if that had been an accident or murder. But how could she find out? After the recent revelations, she did not trust her sister in law. In fact she was disillusioned with her. Annapurna's venom, jealousy and anger towards her sister Mohini, Suraj and Sanskar made it difficult for her to respect her anymore. Annapurna's brother had never interacted with them but Annapurna used to spend a month at her brother's house every year with her boys.

Sujata did not think that the business of the family would be assigned to Sanskar because Sanskar was least interested in the family business. Moreover Durga Prasad was not the kind of person to make any decision emotionally or impulsively except the time when he had decided to marry Annapurna on the rebound. Now after hearing Annapurna's jealousy and vile accusations, she was keen to find out if her sister Mohini and her husband were killed intentionally or by accident. They died when they had met with an accident while travelling from their village to Kolkata. A lorry had hit the car. Sujata felt that there would be no justification to her sister and her child if the truth was not disclosed. But how could she? Sanskar was not here so who could she share her suspicion with?

Ishan...Yes! She called up Ishan...

Laksh was shocked when the caretaker asked the attendant to bring Swara Bose. Was Swara here? He waited anxiously for the man to bring Swara and he turned towards the door when he heard the sound of wheels.The girl in the wheel chair was young around 21 or 22 years old with short hair and big eyes.Thank god it was not Swara........

He looked at the care taker and said

'This is not Swara Bose....'
'Of course this is Swara Bose Mr. Maheshwari. She is your wife's sister. 'He reiterated
Laksh was baffled. He looked at the girl and asked her name but she did not reply.There was a vacant look in her eyes.
'Mr.Laksh, the girl cannot speak and she has lost her memory also.'
'How?' Laksh asked him
'She met with a serious accident months ago. Her spine was injured and she had been very critical. We came to know everything after your wife brought her here and gave us the details. Since then she has been rehabilitating with us. Every week Ragini Maheshwari comes here to take care of her. The only person Swara responds to is her sister...' he explained
'For god's sake she is not Swara Bose...' Laksh exclaimed and asked for the girl's file...
