we don't talk anymore

first day of school.

i tighten my grip on my mom's hand. today is the first day of my new school and i'm going into 1st grade. i look down at the floor and only answer my mom. we walk towards a room and when a nice lady opens the door for us, i see a large classroom filled with kids i don't know. i grab my mom's leg and ask if we can go home, which she only laughs and runs a hand through my hair.

"no ty, you have to go to school, love." she says, soothingly. i look up and she smiles at me. she squeezes my hand and kneels on the floor. she pulls her hand away from mine and puts both of her hands on my shoulders. "it's going to be okay. it's the first day, you'll make friends! you have 24 new crayons to use with your new friends." she reminds me, putting a smile on my face. we share a hug and she kisses my cheek, leaving me to the teacher who's a young lady that has a grin on her face. she welcomes me and asks me for my name.

"my name is tyler." i say quietly. i hold onto my backpack straps tightly.

"hi tyler!" the whole class says to me. everyone smiles and i choose the closest empty seat.

"hi i'm josh." i hear a small voice say. i look up and see a boy with dark hair and small eyes looking at me. i smile and say, "hi josh, i'm tyler."

"i heard you have 24 new crayons." he says.

"do you want to color with me?" i ask. he smiles and nods his head eagerly.

the whole day i spent with josh. we laughed and did our work together and when we finished and had extra time, we colored. when it came to snack time, we shared our snacks with each other.

when it came to the end of the day, we walked outside together and when we saw our moms, he said to me, "we need our moms to be best friends". i nodded my head, agreeing with what he just said.

"bye tyler!" he shouted as he ran in the opposite direction, his head turned around, looking at me as he waved.

"bye josh!" i shouted back, waving and smiling. i skipped over to my mom and hugged her and told her all about josh and what we did that day.
