Chapter 1: The One Where he is Introduced
Alexander's P.O.V
"New York",I exclaim. "Where dreams are made!"
I sigh happily and was blissfully happy for a moment, that was until I am shoved to the ground.
"What the hell was that for!", I complain while stumbling to get back up.
"If you paid attention to your surroundings instead of standing in one place and mumbling to your self like a mad-man, life would a whole hell if a lot easier."
I look up and saw who the voice belonged to.
The man I saw in front of me was dark skin with short hair. He was dressed in a professional suit, contrasting with my hoodie and baggie jeans. I noticed he had a kind face, and despite calling me a "mad-man", he extends a hand to help me up. I grab his hand pulled myself up.
"Burr. Aaron Burr. And you would be?", says the man.
"Alexander Hamilton. I just got to New York. See I used to live in Nevis which is a small island in the Caribbean. After a huge hurricane hit my home town I wrote an essay about all the tragedy and despair the hurricane caused. I wrote everything down far as I could see. Someone sent it to The University of Columbia and I got a full ride to come study here. Man I'm so excited for the new year. I'm gonna have so many friends and I'm gonna accomplish so many things. There's a million things I haven't done. But man, just you wait, I'm gonna do all of it!"
I inhale deeply, realizing I had not breathed that entire time.
I look back at Burr, who is shaking his head.
"Dude, I asked your name not your life story. Can I give you some advise?", Asks Burr.
"Uh I guess", I say raising an eyebrow.
"You shouldn't talk so much. Like you talk A LOT. Instead just smile and try not to give away to much about yourself."
I frown, confused and a little offended.
Burr rolls his eyes.
"Dude whatever. Just learn to shut up or this city will tear you apart."And with that he strolled away humming, leaving me behind confused and irritated.
Who does he think he is, telling me what I should and shouldn't do. Is everyone in New York a jerk, I think to myself, picking up my two bags with all my belongings in it.
I continue to walk along the side walk, so deep in my thoughts that I didn't realize that I made it to Columbia. I enter and head straight toward the information desk.
In front of me was an old lady with curly gray hair, streaked with brown, hinting at its former color. Her face is a web of wrinkles, but when she looks up, I see she had a sweet face and crinkles around her eyes from smiling a lot over the years .
"How may I help you", she says with a strong southern accent and a smile. (AN: God that sentence was cliche as hell)
"Um, I'm a new sophomore here and I need to get a dorm room."
"Sure sweetie. What's the name?"
"Alexander Hamilton", and that's all I say. No way was I gonna embarrass myself like I did with Burr.
She typed it quickly in to the computer.
"Ah yes here you are. Your in room 1776. Your roommate is John Laurens. I think you'll like him. He is such a sweetheart. Anyway, here's your key. Just take the elevator on up", she said.
I thanked her and walked away cheerfully. What a sweet old women, I thought as I stepped into the elevator. Maybe every one in New York isn't such jerks.

20 minutes laterAfter wondering around for what felt like forever, I made it to room 1776. I take a deep breath, unlock the door, and step in.
The room is actually pretty nice. We have our own bathroom at least. One bed already has sheets and a green blankets on it.
I set up on the opposite bed and begin to unpack my bags when I hear the door swing open. Oh it must be my roommate. I jump up, ready to meet him.
"Ay Herc, is that you. Cuz if your messing with Tobillo, I swear-"
He stops short when he saw me. Not that I can judge, my jaw probably dropped to my knees. His curly hair is pulled back into a a ponytail. His olive eyes, seem to glow. Freckles dot his face like stars.
After a few awkward seconds, which feels like an eternity, he clears his throat.
"Uh hey. You must must be Alexander Hamilton. My new roommate. I'm John"
"Yeah, call me Alex.", I reply, trying to keep my cool.
"So tell me about yourself", he says sitting down on his bed.
I hesitate.
"Well my name is Alexander Hamilton and- Oh wait shit I already said that", I said, slapping my forehead. Why am I so nervous.
"Dude chill. Just relax and tell me where your from", he says with a chuckle.
God that chuckle is so cute. I breath in, trying to calm myself, and start over.
"I just moved here from Nevis. I got a scholarship to study here at Columbia. They saw this essay I wrote and and thought it was good enough to get a full ride."
"Man that must have been a hell of a essay", he says with wide eyes.
Great now he thinks I'm a huge dork.
"Yeah it was about a hurricane that hit Nevis. It nearly wiped out my entire town", I said rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.
"Oh wow. Shit. I'm sorry", he says.
"Nah don't worry, it's cool"
We sat there for a few seconds.
"So, you need help with unpacking?", he asks.
"Actually I think I'm good", I said. And it was true. I didn't have that much stuff to unpack to begin with. But I'm not gonna let him know that.
"Well, make yourself at home. This is my side and that's your side. Oh and that's my pet turtle, tobillo", he says fondly, gesturing over to a tank on his dresser.
Huh, how did I not notice that.
"Tobillo?", I question.
"Yeah it means ankle in Spanish."
I give him a confused look.
"Don't ask", he said.
"Um ok?"
So hopefully that doesn't suck too bad. Lol but for real give me feedback. Question: Do you guys like the verb tenses I use in this? I don't know if they work or not but I'm trying it out. Thanks for reading! Love y'all!
