Fear Of The Dark

They kept running and they could still see him. Ivan was just a step away and he wasn’t slowing down. They were getting hungry and tired and Eva desperately needed to use a bathroom. But they couldn’t. All they could do is run, run, and run. Eva didn’t even know where they were headed anymore. She knew they were headed somewhere. They had to be because they needed to stop running and get a rest. Nobody can run their whole life. But she had no idea where they are headed. Her brain was set only on following Alexei and not falling behind and dragging him down with her.  But it had to be someplace safe. Alexei was probably headed towards some court or something. Where someone will tell Ivan to stop and get rid of him. She didn’t give it much thought though. She just kept running. She lost count how many time have they fallen and got back up a long time ago. Now it was a huge surprise that they were still able to run. Adrenalin was gone already so that couldn’t be keeping them up. Maybe it was just a pure will to live. But she knew she can’t take much more. She felt sorry for Alexei too. He shouldn’t be in this. He only protected her. If he didn’t do it, he’d be fine and he wouldn’t need to run. She didn’t even know this guy but in all this time she felt like she knew him her whole life. She felt connected to him. If Ivan caught only Alexei she’d probably just fall on the floor and give up. She would probably say she fell in love with him if this was over but they were running all the time and she was tired and she wasn’t able to feel love. The only feeling she had left was fear.
