I was awoken by a scream. It was loud and pierced the air. I gasped as I saw light in the corridor. Immediately I thought of the strange group of people who had threatened us. What were they called? Alcor? I leapt out of bed and got a hold of the lamp, ripping the cord out of its socket. I was armed and ready. I crept around the room and peered around the corridor. Nothing, no more voices. I have to investigate. I took a big breath and...
Wait. What is that smell? It smells like forest or bush, it reminds me of marshmallows no chocolate biscuits, I feel light, I want to dance around. I spin in a circle still trying to place what this scent is. I am about to dramatically flop onto my bed and whisper a few lines of Shakespeare before I realise.
Marshmallows, wood, light. It's a fire! I run to the doorway and look upon black curling clouds reaching out towards me. This time, I am the one who screams. I bolt over to Hanna, who is still dozing, and yell in her ears.
"Wake up. There's a fire. We have to get out."She isn't waking up. I push and pull her body. I rip the covers out of her sleepy grasp and yell louder.
"Wake up! We are going to die." I can feel the heat rushing through the door. My eyes sting from the smoke. I begin to cough.
"Hanna, please, come on." She sits up in bed breathing heavily.
"Wha..?" I pull her out of bed and push her through the door. She hesitates on the stairs and then hurries down the concrete ledges. Bits of ash fall around me, catching in my hair and on my clothes. I can't stop to brush them off. We keep running through flames and smoke which crowd around us like paparazzi.Hanna stopped abruptly and I shoved her along. No time to cough. Just keep going. She swerves left and I follow behind her. I stop as she throws herself into a glass window which seems to be the most accessible way out.
I follow her closely and land on a soft, dewy patch of grass. Hanna reaches out towards me and I take her hand in thanks. She stumbles along and I take hold of her shoulder and steer her in the right direction. We join the group and I let go of her and run into Shay's arms.
She pats my hair and brushes the soot off my clothes. Her eyes are filled with worry and terror. I look down to the grass and try to control my breathing. She stops and I look up. She isn't looking at me or at the burning remains of the house. Something just over my head is intriguing her.
I follow her gaze and see Hanna crumple to the ground like a wet piece of paper. We dash to her side along with Nutmeg, Felix and Peter. Her eyes roll back and her hand that I'm holding goes limp.
NONONONONONONONONONONONO. C'mon Hanna. Don't give up now.

I thought this was a little funny. I found this picture and its caption was "Inflatable Factory Fire".
