Vanity
"I'm back with food." Chastity announced when she came in through the front door with grocery bags hanging off her arms. I got up and helped alleviate some of the burden by taking a few bags and putting them on the table. "CJ's home by the way, he's getting the rest of the stuff." She continued to say and I just looked at her. She had since cut her hair to the length of her shoulders and I just found it to be such a cute look for her. While she's down here and around me, she tries not to mess around with the usual drugs she does back at her house and I noticed a difference in her personality. She was more positive and playful but I was scared of her falling into a bad withdrawal feeling. She always claimed she was just fine but if there was ever anything offered to her, she would take it up on it's offer.
CJ was next to come in with the rest of the bags- or at least what I assume to be the rest and I was already starting to put things away. The bread went on the counter next to the toaster, canned goods went in the cabinets above the refrigerator- my brain just automatically knew where these things went without having to give it much thought.
Just as fast as CJ came in, he went right back out without saying a word. I didn't notice him in a bad mood or upset, if anything he looked pretty happy so why didn't he at least say something? I exchanged a confused look with Chastity and she shrugged her shoulders. There was the sound of the car door opening and not long after closing but no start up of the car. Chastity and I continued to unpack the groceries and CJ came back inside with a large box.
"What's in the box?" Chastity was quick to abandon to the box of tiny toast cereal to go see what CJ had put down on the floor.
"Nothin' for you so get gone." He shot back at her."V, I got a crib so whenever you wanna start putting it together, let me know." I just about dropped the container of tomatoes before I went to go see. "So that's another thing off our list of things to get."
"It didn't cost you too much, did it?" I asked looking nervously at him. With the way money is right now, I feel bad that I'm not contributing to any of this stuff.
"Don't worry about that, if it was somethin' that was too much I wouldn't have gotten it." He assured me as he began to push the box down to the nursery. "Anything new happen while I was gone?"
"I got to talk to my Mom today." I said with a smile on my face as I replayed the sound of her voice from our conversation in my head. I didn't tell her about the most recent incident because I didn't want to worry her but it was so nice to get to talk to her after all this time.
"Really? How is she?"
"She's a lot better. She said she can't wait to come out and see all of us, especially the baby when he or she is here."
"She know when she's coming out?"
"She had mentioned that she'd like to be out before the baby was born but for now she knows she'd relapse if she came home. She's thinking another three maybe four months and should possible handle being out." Either way, I want her to come out when she's strong enough to not give in to those temptations. "She really wanted Chastity to go through rehab too but we all know how that is." I said more quietly so she wouldn't hear from the kitchen.
"Hopefully your Mom will be out soon and as far as Chastity... good luck with that one. As long as she's still fucking Rack City, she's forever got her plug." I know and I wish she'd change but I can't force her and bringing up rehab just makes her mad so we avoid that topic altogether. "Anything else go on?"
"PD called the house too. They said they wanted to have a few words with me because Marquis turned himself in and is in their custody. He's set to go to court and I'm needed since I was the victim." Avoiding his face, I didn't want to see him mad. "I'm scared Marquis will mention you went back to selling drugs and he'll get you locked up for good-"
