The most important thing (movie, performance, story e.g.)then anything is the characters, the keys to a good character is likable, compelling and relatable are going to talk about the wrongs of a character in anything:
~The make a choice to add a character with less knowledge (aka: stupid characters ).
~They make a character annoying ,unredeemable and dislikeable.
~Whenever a cause mischief they might not get consequences.
~Don't make any relationship seem forced (depends if you use it right or not).
To avoid this in anything if a character who has less knowledge done something wrong have to regret it or they didn't mean it and have to learn their mistakes and help escalate the situation positively, also if a character had no purpose to the story anymore just kill them off but do it in a right timing and add the impact towards the characters and their thoughts and emotions. Also don't make their stupidity hurt others and don't make it too negatively effective in the story.
If you were to add character were to be dislikeable, annoying and unredeemable make them suffer by what is around them and if you do not want to kill them off, by making a the character get hurt by there surroundings or what they have bought upon themselves. If there is a character that causes mischief make them suffer, I have seen this done many times in shows but the show that follows and does this right is 'BoJack Horseman' where the characters do drugs but end up getting a drug overdose.
If you want 2 characters to be a couple do not make it so forced or just come out of nowhere like in (SPOILERS)'Regular Show' where Rigby is dating Eileen. To avoid this you have to make the characters start as friends and as soon as they get to know each other they have to be best friends, it shows that they can trust each other and tell them their secrets and if they confess there feelings to each other that would make them a couple, you must add bonding scenes and use that to get them closer.
The relationship in a romance story is in fact a key to the door. We will start of with the main relationship when starting off you have to make it their choice to meet each other but without knowing and make them both go through challenges of any type. Add to the facts of how others will react to their relationship (family, friends, cousins ,brothers and sisters).
