RECORDS

Since the night of the party, Eden hadn't seen Harry around. She never noticed him around the campus or in the town shops as if she'd made him up in her head. Did I? He hadn't made enough appearances in order for her to say no you definitely didn't, Eden.  She decided to go on a little walk remembering that she wanted to check out the record store in town so she took the opportunity to do so.

Eden stepped into the little shop which had this weird smell to it, but it wasn't absolutely repulsive; maybe like old record cover slips and wallpaper? Odd but not unexpected because after all it wasn't in it's greatest shape. Pictures of You - The Cure played quietly in the background as she took a look around. There were rows of wooden shelves and tables lining the walls that were filled with all types of CDs and cassettes. There were two rows of tables down the middle that were back to back and in one area, there were vinyls from almost any artist and genre you could think of.

Eden started to make her way over to an area in the middle and began flicking through the cover slips mentally debating if she wanted to spend money on one. She looked up without moving her head as she peered around the store to see if people actually came in here. Eden saw a girl standing at the counter, writing in a journal while a couple of people were scattered around. A guy stood in front of her with his back facing in my direction. He was tall and his black shirt hung on his hunched shoulders. Tattoos were placed in various areas on his arm and she watched him bring up his hand to scratch the back of his head. He adjusted the one sleeve on his shoulder and Eden saw a watch latched around his wrist and a silver band wrapped around his middle finger. His jeans hugged his hips and a brown belt secured them there. She couldn't see any further than the back of his knee but his hair was chocolaty and swirled around this one spot on the back of his head. Just before Eden looked back down, he turned around and her eyes widened but they wouldn't leave their hold.

He had a name tag pinned on his t-shirt. Harry. His eyes flicked from her face to her shirt and then back to her face. Eden froze up because she didn't know what to do. Should I say hi or smile or pretend I didn't see him? No don't pretend you didn't see him. So smile or say hi? Eden, choose man, you look awkward staring at him.  She shyly smiled at him and looked back down, not wanting to make things more awkward. Too late, he probably knows you're weird. She made herself look busy as she flicked through the records but she was interrupted by a voice.

"Do you need help with anything?" Harry asked in a monotone voice as he played with the edges of the records with his long fingers. Eden looked up to see him leaning his hip on the table as he tried to avoid eye contact with her. After a few seconds his green eyes finally looked at hers.

"Aren't you the guy from the party?" Eden asked curiously as her eyes squinted slightly.

"Uh yeah... That night is such a blur." He said as a smile tugged on his lips, again breaking eye contact with her. Eden pursed her lips as she nodded and looked back down at the record she had her hand on. She pulled it out of it's spot and flipped it to the back to see what tracks were on it. The two were quiet for a while but she knew he was still there because she could see his fingers out of the corner of her eyes.

"Not a bad choice." He piped up. Eden looked over at him again and he nodded at the vinyl she held in her hand. He started listing out the details about it and about the band but he didn't realize Eden only picked it up to make herself look busy. She kind of liked to hear him talk about with such passion about music. His voice was low and slow [an: that rhyme though] which made it seem like he was taking his time talking about them.

"Wow, you're like a Wikipedia page." Eden laughed as she turned the record back around and placed it in it's slot. She watched as his eyes locked on her and he smirked.

"You know, I don't mean to brag but if you picked any record up in this room, I could list of a couple facts." He leaned closer to her as he spoke quietly, turning so that his bum rested up against the shelving. He crossed his arms over his chest and turned his head, letting his eyes scan up and down her frame.

"Oh could you? What about th-" Eden was interrupted by a man's voice from the back of the store.

"Harry!" She peeked behind Harry to see a man standing in the backroom's door frame behind the counter. His arms were crossed and he had this look on his face.

"If you could excuse me... I have someone up my ass about something." Harry looked back over at Eden with pursed lips. He uncrossed his arms and stood upright on his feet as he walked towards the back. The man and Harry exchanged mumbles as Eden continued her look at a few more records before deciding to leave. Harry hadn't returned for the rest of the time that she was browsing but as soon as she put one foot on the concrete outside the door, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Eden turned around to see Harry holding the door as he peeped his head outside.

"I apologize, boss can be quite invasive on conversations." He said with his brows furrowed and his arms crossed over his chest. He breathed out through his mouth and Eden watched the visible puff of air travel up above them.

"It happens." Eden smiled quickly before turning towards the sidewalk to head back home but he stopped her again.

"Hey, I'd like to see you again." He said a little loudly.

"I'm sure you will." Eden joked and she watched as the corner of his mouth curled up before she turned back around. Smooth one, Eden. Smooth.
