Chapter Twenty Eight

The next morning I woke up to someone repeatedly saying my name. It took my ears a second to adjust to the sound, but I quickly realized that it was Kendall. My eyes fluttered open and I nearly pissed myself.

Kendall was leaning onto the makeshift bed, her face a mere inches away from mine. She blinked a few times before grinning. "Did I wake you up?"

I stretched under the covers and nodded my head. "Weren't you trying to?"

She giggled, covering her mouth with a small hand. "Yes."

I smiled at her cuteness. She was still wearing a pink nightgown, her hair in messy ringlets. She rested her elbows on the bed and brushed a few pieces of hair out of her face.

 "Is Austin a good bwother?"

I nodded my head instinctively. "He is."

"I like him," She sighed, "He is good at playing hide and seek."

I smiled. "Yeah, he is really good at that game."

"Kendall," I suddenly heard Hollie whisper-yell, "Are you up there?"

"Yes, mommy!" She yelled rather loudly.

I laughed, sitting up in the bed and stretching out my legs. I heard Hollie's footsteps as she walked up the stairs, and whenever she appeared at the top, I was surprised to see that she was still dressed in her PJs. I had assumed that she had to go into work today.

Hollie stopped walking and put her hand on her hip, giving Kendall a disapproving stare. "I thought we talked about not waking up our guests."

Kendall sighed in irritation and bobbed her head slightly. "I only wanted to make sure she was sleeping good."

Hollie gave me an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry if she woke you."

I ruffled Kendall's hair, smilling as I did so. "Personal wake up calls are always the best."

"See, mommy?" Kendall flashed a smug smile at Hollie, "She wanted me to wake her up."

Hollie rolled her eyes, but I saw the smile forming on her lips anyway. "Dallis, if you would like some breakfast, help yourself to anything in the kitchen."

Kendall held up her little finger at me. "But don't eat the last Poptaht. Those are my favowite."

"Kendall," Hollie said, walking closer to her and grabbing her hand, "Manners, young lady."

 I laughed. "She's fine. Really."

 "I'm fine, mommy," Kendall grumbled.

"Let's go back downstairs," Hollie sighed, "We need to get you ready for daycare."

Hollie glanced back at me. "I took the day off today. I thought maybe we could have some girl time?"

I smiled. "I would like that."

"Hey, what about me?" Kendall pouted.

"We have girl time all the time, sweetie," Hollie said as they began to walk towards the stairs.

 "Not with Dallis."

"You can have girl time with Dallis another day."

"But mom," Kendall whined as Hollie shut the door behind them, muffling the rest of their conversation.

I climbed out of the bed after a few seconds of just sitting there and decided to shower. I grabbed all of my soaps out of my bag and walked into the bathroom.
