Chapter Thirty

Standing outside of the front door of Drew's house for the first time in over a month was weird. I felt like I couldn't even remember what he looked like, and it had only been five weeks since the last time I'd seen him. I couldn't help but wonder how much he'd changed, or if he'd changed at all.
After Austin and I spent the rest of the day with our parents, it was incredible to sleep in my bed again. I hadn't realized how much I'd missed the little things until I had them again. Like the smell of my body wash, the way the floor creaked whenever I walked through the bathroom, or the way the sun peeked through my blinds in the morning.
I'd showered this morning after I'd woken up, my stomach in complete knots because I knew exactly how I was going to spend the first part of my day. Sadie had shown up while I was getting ready and we talked for a good hour about everything that had happened within the past three weeks. Whenever I'd finished getting dressed, we both parted ways after sharing an extremely long hug.
I finally took a deep breath before bringing my fist up to the door, knocking on it a few times before dropping my hand back to my side. I could hear someone walking through the house and whenever Drew opened the front door, I let out the breath that I hadn't even realized I'd been holding.
He looked exactly the same as the last time I saw him. His brown hair was still the same length, his eyes still the same bright color. His skin was tanner, but I was sure he'd been spending a lot of time surfing with his friends while I'd been gone.
His eyes widened whenever he realized that I was standing in front of him on his porch. He slowly opened the screen door, his eyes raking over me. I suddenly felt self concious in my denim cut offs and black racer back tank top.
"Dallis?" He asked, almost like he couldn't believe that it was me.
"Hey," I breathed. The ring in my back pocket suddenly felt like a ton of bricks.
He continued to stand there, several different emotions crossing his face within the span of ten seconds. He went from looking surprised to almost looking happy to see me. But that emotion was quickly replaced with hurt and ultimately with anger.
His face litteraly turned red and his eyebrows furrowed. He'd gone from being flabbergasted that I was standing here to looking like he was disgusted that I had the audacity to show up.
"Why are you here?" He asked, his voice bitter.
I swallowed, despite my throat being incredibley dry. "I need to talk to you."
He shook his head, reaching to shut the door. "I don't want to lis-"
"Please, Drew," I said, placing a hand on the door to keep him from shutting it in my face.
He stared at me for a few long seconds before opening the door wider. I gave him a grateful look and walked into the house. I glanced around the large living room as I walked towards the couch, suddenly feeling like an outsider. This house was once more like a home to me than my actual house, and now I just felt like I didn't belong at all.
I sat down on the long leather couch and ran my hands over my thighs nervously. I watched as Drew took a seat on the couch across from me, his eyes not meeting mine. It was crazy to think that five weeks ago, things were completely different. I thought I loved him.
And now we were acting like strangers.
I let out a breath before saying anything. "I'm sorry."
He snickered. "If that's why you're here, you can leave."
