Chapter Twelve
"Oh my God," Sadie mumbled as she walked through the screen door onto the balcony, "My head is killing me."
I smirked from my seat in the far right corner. My feet were curled up under me and I had a very delicious cup of coffee. Usually, I absolutely hated coffee. But considering I'd been awake since around five, it was much needed.
Sadie sat down in the seat beside mine, yawning rather loudly as she did so. Her hair was an absolute wreck and her mascara was smeared. For someone that was used to getting drunk, she looked like she'd been to hell and back.
"Do you want some of this?" I asked, reaching the mug of coffee towards her. She nodded her head gratefully and took it from my hands.
I looked back out over the balcony ledge, leaning my head back and closing my eyes. I was so tired but sleep wasn't really easy for me. Especially after last night.
After I got Kiptyn up to his room that he was sharing with Jase, I'd gone into the room that I was sharing with Lincoln and Sadie and tried my hardest to fall asleep. Of course it wasn't easy considering I had thoughts circulating through my brain about Kiptyn's words.
I mean, what the hell had he even meant? I understood the whole he didn't think I was a stuck up bitch anymore. But what about what he said about Drew? What did that mean?
"So, what all happened last night?" Sadie asked, handing me back my cup of coffee. She ran a hand through her messy hair. "I don't really remember much after the shot of fireball I did with some guy backstage."
I glanced over at her with one of my dispproving motherly looks. Her eyes widened and she put her hands up. "What the fuck did I do?"
"You made out with some random guy backstage," Her eyes widened even further, "In front of Jase."
She stayed like that for a second before letting out a deep breath. She looked down at her hands and I could tell that she was thinking really hard about something. I knew Sadie really well, probably better than I knew myself. So it was safe to say that I knew when she was conflicted about something.
"Do you think he's too good for me?" She asked softly, not looking at me still.
Sadie was a strong girl, but I didn't want to sugar coat anything for her because I knew she wouldn't for me. "I think you need to stop leading him on."
She glanced up at me. "You're right."
And just like that, the topic of Jase was over. I knew that those few words were all I needed to say to Sadie because she would probably think about them for the rest of the day. Whether or not she would actually listen to them was a different thing. But I knew she would at least consider them, which was all she really could do at this point.
"Kiptyn said some interesting things to me last night," I said after a few minutes, putting my cup down onto the small plastic table.
Sadie's eyebrows immediatley shot up. "Like what?"
I gave her the entire run down of how I'd walked in on him having sex, how he'd drunkenly flirted with me, and then managed to insult and semi-compliment me in the same sentence. As I told her everything, I became even more conflicted about it. Especially whenever I told her about the last thing he said.
Butterflies managed to make their way into my stomach just by thinking about it. What the hell was wrong with me? Seriously, I was supposed to hate Kiptyn. Not have butterflies in my stomach while thinking about him.
"Well," Sadie finally said, "I think you should ask him about it."
I openly stared at her. "He was shitfaced, Sadie."
Sadie shrugged. "A drunken man's words are a sober man's thoughts."
I rolled my eyes. "This is serious. Every time I think about what he said I get weird tingles in my stomach," I shook my head, "This shit isn't okay."
"It's because you like him."
I whipped my head around and narrowed my eyes at her. "I do not like Kiptyn."
"Oh please, Dallis," Sadie leaned back in her seat, "You've had a thing for him ever since elementary school."
"I've hated him ever since elementary school," I cried.
"Yeah, he's been a total douche to you and I really do think he hated you," She pointed out, "But I think that subconciously you have always had some kind of an infatuation for him."
I stood up from my seat and brushed off my leggings. "You're stupid if you think I like Kiptyn."
"Quit getting so defensive," Sadie smiled, "You're just making yourself look guilty."
I threw my hands up. "Guilty of what?!"
Sadie shrugged again. "Of falling for the guy that's made your life hell."
"Whoever had the brilliant idea of traveling ten hours to San Antonio from New Mexico is a fucking idiot," Lincoln grumbled from the backseat. She was completely hungover from the night before, so I was sitting in the very back with her and letting her use my lap as a pillow. Her face was extremely pale from throwing up everytime we stopped somewhere and her eyes were bloodshot.
"Actually, Lincoln," Lyle said from the front seat, "You're the one that scheduled the Texas gigs."
"Oh shut up, Lyle," Lincoln groaned, putting her hands over her face.
"How many more hours do we have?" Sadie asked from her seat beside Jase. I wasn't really sure if she'd taken my advice or not, because they'd been cuddling the past six hours of the trip.
"Around four."
Sadie and Lincoln both groaned which made Kiptyn let out an annoyed sigh. "Stop fucking complaining."
Sadie turned her head and narrowed her eyes at him. "Stop being a dick."
He shot her a fuck you smile. "But it's what I'm best at."
"Obviously," I muttered before I even realized what I was doing.
Kiptyn, Sadie, and Jase all turned around to look at me, their eyebrows raised. My cheeks grew red immediatley.
"Did you say something?" Kiptyn asked, a smirk on his lips.
I shrugged. "Nothing to important."
Kiptyn snickered. "No surprise there."
"There's too much tension in this car," Lyle said as he turned on his blinker, "It's time to stop for some food."
"Thank God," Jase muttered, nearly jumping out of the car whenever Lyle pulled into a parking space at McDonalds.
As everyone piled out of the car, I looked at Lincoln, who was still laying down with her head in my lap. "Are you not hungry?"
She shook her head and slowly sat up. "No. You go. I'm going to stay here and sleep."
I laughed. "I'll bring you back a Sprite."
I climbed over the second row and out of the car, shutting the door behind me. Everyone was already inside McDonalds, except for Kiptyn who was standing outside with a cigarette to his lips.
My stomach twisted in knots. Sadie had pretty much made me feel obligated to talk to him about what happened while he was drunk, and since I hadn't been alone with him until now, I hadn't said anything at all.
Unfortunately that probably meant I should talk to him now.
"Do you have another one of those?" I asked, nodding at the cigarette between his fingers.
He arched an eyebrow and smirked. "You don't smoke, Dallis."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "You don't know what I do and don't do."
"I'm not giving you a cigarette," He said as his smirk grew.
I rolled my eyes and leaned against the wall beside him. I crossed my arms over my chest and gave myself a mental pep talk. Just ask him what he meant. That was all I had to do.
"Is there a reason you're standing out here?" He asked, taking a drag off of his cigarette and continuing to look forward.
"Do you remember anything from last night?" My cheeks grew red at the way my voice squeaked at the end, making me sound even more pathetic than I originally intended.
"Is there something specific that I should remember?" He asked, a cocky smirk on his lips. He threw his cigarette onto the ground and stomped on it before turning to look at me.
"I-I, you, I mean, you said some things last night," I swallowed, "that I wanted to ask you about."
He chuckled. "Are you nervous?"
My cheeks began to heat up again. I actually was nervous and he really wasn't making it any easier on me by asking. "No."
He ran a hand through his hair. "What is this about, Dallis?"
I took a deep breath. "I walked in on you having sex with some girl and you were so drunk. You pretty much flirted with me and then whenever we got to the hotel you said that if you were Drew, you never would have let me go."
I watched as his face changed from cocky to extremely stoic. His lips set into a firm line and his eyes hardened. "I don't remember saying that."
"You were drunk," I pointed out.
He shrugged. "So what exactly are you bringing this up for?"
I squeezed my arms around me and sighed. "I just wanted to know what you meant."
"Well," He said, beginning to walk past me, "I can't remember what I was thinking at that time, but I probably only said it for one reason."
I raised my eyebrows in anticipation.
He began to open the door before flashing me a grin. "I probably just wanted to fuck you."
I stood there even after he walked into the restaurant, absolutely dumbfounded. At first I believed him, that maybe he did just want to get in my pants. But then I thought about the way he looked last night, how not douchey he'd been.
I knew, no matter how he tried to interpret it, that he did mean something by what he said last night. And I was going to figure it out one way or another.
