Zach's POV
___________

I looked towards the field Maddie was playing at. Jason was standing next to me and looking at me weird. "Okay, do you have a problem with me?" I asked. "Why did you take Madeline from me?" He asked rudely. "Well, didn't you break up with her?" I asked. "Yeah, because we are different." He said. "I am a freaking vampire and she's a wolf. I wouldn't want anyone hurting her because of me. More importantly, I wouldn't want to see her with another endangered clan member." "Excuse me?" I asked. "You heard me." Jason said. "I know you're part of an endangered clan and it would jeopardize your and her life." "What do you mean?" I asked, playing dumb. "Oh, so you don't have that mirror with you, huh?" He sneered. "What mirror?" I asked. "What the hell are you talking about?" "Oh, you know." He said. "The one backed with silver." A chill went down my spine.

I stayed silent. "Talk, Zach." He said. Just then, Maddie came over with an umpire. "Hey guys." She said. "Jason, I think I found Madi's mother." "Wait, what?" He asked. "Yup." She said. "Let's head on over to the other field. Madi's still playing." I fixed my sweater as I followed Maddie, Jason, and the umpire over to where the Lady Blaze was playing. We were just in time to see Maddie's lookalike run across the plate. Soon, the game was over and both teams lined up. After the usual sequence, they all went back to the dugout and packed up. "Madi." Jason called. "Madeline found something." "And why do you call her by her formal name?" I asked. "I don't know, why do you call her by her nickname?" "At least I know." I said, trying not to growl."

Madi's POV

I walked out of the dugout. There was an umpire next to Madeline. "Madison, is that you?" I froze. "Mom." I said surprised. "How? I thought you were dead." "For a second, me too." My mother said. "There's only three of us left in the singing clan, let alone the harvest clan. Who's the third?" "I am." Madeline said. "And both our enemies have teamed up against us." "Then we have got to be careful." My mother said. "I don't know if I am umpiring tomorrow." "Well, it depends on the teams playing in the championship." I said. "Anyways, let's see if we got 1st and 2nd seed for the pool play." "Teams are still playing." Madeline said. "Let's watch my friend, Laura. She is on the Mass Drifters."

Madeline's POV
______________

On our way to the field, I felt a hand on my arm. In my peripheral vision, I saw Jason. I quickly pulled my arm away. "Back off." I said. "I'm not stupid, I heard you earlier. Yea, he is a wolf, but please don't threaten him. He is with us." "Really, you'd choose him over me?" He hissed. I pinned him to a wall in one swift move. "You watch your mouth." I said. "There are many people here that I know, and they'll take my side if they see someone harassing me." He started to speak. "I wasn't-" I punched him hard in the ribs with my wolf speed. "You were giving my boyfriend a hard time." I growled, eyes turning yellow. "You're lucky we are friends." I let him go and he stumbled to the ground. I fixed my white jersey and caught up with Zach and the others.

"You good?" Zach asked. "I heard everything." "Yea," I said. "It just wasn't my day. I just wish he could leave me alone." "Okay, now you quickly want him gone." He said. "It's my nature to keep our clans alive." I said. "And I remember you not knowing about me before the end of our sophomore year. I wanted to show you, but-" "It's okay." Zach said. "I don't care anymore. Kylie told me about it and she was bugging me to tell you about me once she told me that you were a wolf. I was really stupid, and I hope you forgive me." "Of course I forgive you." I said. "Why wouldn't I?" I planted a kiss on his cheek.

We arrived at the field to see Laura pitching. She was just striking out the last batter. The game ended just like that. "Laura!" I called. She found me and waved. She met us around the dugout. "Hey, how's my wolfie doing?" She asked. "My friends and I kinda need help right now." I said. "I see you have met Madi." "I have and you guys could easily qualify as sisters." She said. "I see you brought your bf." I laughed and blushed. "There's the giggly I know." She added. "Okay, can you help us?" Zach asked. "Right." She said. "I will be there if you guys play under the lights. And what's the plan?"

"If the Lady Blaze and Lady Sting make it into the championship game, then watch for both of us." I said. "Alright." She said. "I'll be on the sidelines with Zach. If anything goes wrong, I will make a connection with either one of you. And you Blu." "I will probably be umpiring that game." The umpire said. "I will have to wear my tuning fork necklace under my uniform just to be safe. Do, you have one Madison?" Madi shook her head. "I wish I did." She said. "Welp, got to go." Laura said. "See you tomorrow if I play either one of you." "Bye, kid." I called.

I walked off into the distance and cracked the muscles in my neck. Sitting on the ground, I fell back in the grass. I heard light footsteps as I smelled Madi, Jason, and Zach's scents. "Hey guys." I said. "Madeline, you guys have the #1 seed." Madi said. "Let me guess, Shannon is taking all the credit, isn't she." I said. "Yup." Zach said. "If you're talking about the blonde with #7." "Yup." I said. "That's her alright."

Then I heard Shannon walk over to us. "Great job Madeline." She said. "Oh, hey, Treble. You're lucky this is a tournament. Where's your mother?" "She left the field." Madi said. "You're not hurting her when I'm here." I spat. "And start acting like a teammate for once. We were up by 6 and you said you're gonna flip if we don't beat this fucking team. Exact words." "Well, you got to step it up behind the plate." She said. I sat up. "You're lucky right now." I growled. "You are lucky you are even on my softball team in the first place even with no dedication and you don't care about the team. You just want to take all the credit even when you don't do shit." "You don't tell me what to do, Kilpeck." She sneered. "You don't scare me, Healy." I said. "I will soon enough." She said.

"Fuck off." Madi said. "I can't wait to play tomorrow. Let's go, Madeline." I followed her to my car. "Ready to head home?" I asked. "Yeah." Madi said. "Jason, you coming?" He shook his head. "Nah." He said. "I think I am gonna head home. I will teleport to the tournament tomorrow." He snapped his fingers and his stuff appeared in his hand. "Alright." I said. "Bye kid." He teleported without waving. "Well, he seems off today." Madi said. "No kidding." Zach said. "He has been acting strange since I got here." "I had to knock some sense into him." I said. I lifted up my arms to find bruises. "What?" I said. "I didn't expect that." "Let's just go home." Madi said. "Back to your house and we will discuss how the games went." "Alright." I said. "Get in." We piled into my car. Zach in the front and Madi, Brian, and Laura in the back. I pulled out of the parking lot and drove home, waiting for Allie to follow.
