Madeline's POV
_____________"You start with the first part." I said. "I'll see if I can add harmony. Just keep singing and ignore my harmony attempts for the time being. You good with that?" Madi nodded. "Yea." She said. "And will this have a count before the first chord?" "Yes." I said. "This is just a practice round just to get used to both our voices. Don't stress. I thought you were a singing wolf." "What?!" She said. "I'm messing with you." I said. "Get the sarcasm."
The music started and Madi sang the first part with a vulnerable voice. "🎵Hold. Hold on. Hold onto me. Cause I'm a little unsteady. A little unsteady.🎵" I did the second part, but with a bit more powerful voice. "🎶Hold. Hold on. Hold onto me. Cause I'm a little unsteady. A little unsteady.🎶" She looked at me with wide eyes. I paused the video. "What?" I asked. "How can you do that?" Madi asked. "That doesn't sound like a human voice. And that's a compliment." "Practice, thanks." I said. "Let's keep going."
We got to the point when Madi sang, "if you love me, don't let go." I sang the harmony that one of the band members sang. She did the same with when I sang the same thing. "Great job girls." My mother said. I quickly paused the video. I gave her the glare and she backed out of the doorway. "Hey, you caught on." I said. "Well done." "I like harmony too." She said.

Madi's POV
__________It was 10 pm again. A lot of time passed. "Wanna focus on the chorus harmony tomorrow?" Madeline asked. "Yea," I said. "I need a little help with that." "Don't worry." Madeline said. "I was having trouble with the harmony when I started experimenting with harmonies." "Well, I hope this turns out well." I said. "I'll be sure to give you a pre recorded cd I made with my voice only." Madeline said. "You can work on the harmony. I also added my harmony." We changed our clothes and got into Madeline's bed. "This is so comfy." I said. "Well, then, wake me up when the alarm actually goes off this time." She said. I nodded as I fell asleep.
...time skip...
Current time 3:30 pm.
We were working on the chorus. It was a bit stressful. "Help." I said. "I feel like I am falling flat." Madeline went to her piano. She played the notes of the melody. "This is what I'm singing." She said. "Now, I'm gonna play each fifth of the chord, but the chord is gonna be in the second inversion. 'B' then 'A' are the two notes I'm gonna sing. Then 'D' is the note you're gonna sing for the harmony." She played the 'd' key with 'b' and then 'a' followed by the next progression on the piano.
"Watch closely at the top notes I play." She said. "See if you can reach the notes while I play them. I'll be singing the lower notes played." I nodded. I sang the high notes that I saw on the piano as she played. She stopped as we finished the chorus. "Well done." She said. "It wasn't that bad." I said. "Let's try it with the instrumental."
She skipped to before the chorus she sings. She started to sing. I kept the harmony in my head as I sang it perfectly. Even the hard notes with the lyrics 'cause I'm a little unsteady. A little unsteady.' She let me sing the last chorus alone and she looked impressed. "You're really good." She said. "Me?" I asked. "You're better. You're second in the state. Who's first?" "My friend and classmate, Katie Johnson." She said. "She'll be graduating next year and this is only for high school students. So I'll be first in the state and in my school until senior year."
"Let's take a break." Madeline said. "We've been practicing since morning." The clock showed 4:30 pm. "Hey, can I ask you something?" I asked. "Sure, what about?" She asked. "It's about Jason." I said. "What about him?" She asked. "Well, have you been noticing him acting strange?" I asked. "No." She said. "Why do you ask?" "I feel like he's staring at you." I said.
"Um, ok?" She said. "And the point is...?" "He seems to be fond of you." I said. "Lilly told me that she ended up reading his mind. I thin he likes you." "Well, I've been single since last fall." She said. "I don't wanna date anyone just yet. My last boyfriend was too clingy. He was a tiger hybrid. He was too forward and after a month and a half, he went too far. So I broke up with him."
"Ouch." I said. "You have no idea." She said. "Have you seen over 30 missed calls after you turn on your phone after a tournament?" I shook my head. "And he keeps calling you every minute on the car ride home." She added. "Well, Jason is nothing like that." I said. "So, what are you trying to say?" She asked. "I'm saying that Jason has a crush on you." I said. "But male vampires are unpredictable. Lilly told me that they have a habit of wanting to bite your neck when they try to kiss you. That hasn't happened to a werewolf before."
"Actually, it doesn't work on singing wolves." She said. "When they first get bitten, they have a chance of just dying. However, if they live, they are only reduced to their hybrid form And they instead lose their full wolf form. I learned that the hard way." "Why is that?" I asked scared. "It was an accident." She said. "My boyfriend before the tiger hybrid, the concert choir boy, he bit me."
"What?" I screamed. "Yea, I thought I was gonna die." She said. "He was trying to take out the venom, but he left a drop. I was scared and transformed into my wolf worm, but then I immediately transformed into a hybrid form instead. The bright side was at least I could talk still and that I am now immune to vampire bites. However, he felt very bad. We decided to break up so he can protect me."
"Well at least you both agreed." I said. "But we got back together." She said. "Never mind." I said. "But it just made things worse." She said. " I got injured and he wasn't there. He didn't respect my form anymore it seemed. So I kicked him to the curb. And I wrote this song here to get my anger out at the time. He's heard it, and he actually likes it. He let me perform it at the school talent show, which I won."
"Well, it really pays off then." I said. "Yea, I guess." She said. "So, if Jason ends up biting you, you'd be immune to it, right?" I asked. She nodded. "Yea." She said. "And he'll be over here until you guys get here on the Monday before the tournament." "Ok." I said. "So, wanna run through the song one more time and then call it a day?" She asked. "Sure." I said. "From the top."
