Last Ultrasound

"Lily Ann, are you ready to go?" I yelled up the stairs, before waddling away as Lily Ann yelled back that she was nearly ready. I was now a little over eight months pregnant and we were about to leave for the last ultrasound I would be having for this pregnancy.

Despite the fact that Lily Ann was perfectly healthy and had been from the time she was born, I still had to get a lot more ultrasounds and check-ups done than a woman would. Just in case.

"OK. Let's go." Lily Ann sighed as she jumped down off the last step on the stairs, before she seemed to realize Liam was missing. "Where's Daddy?"

"In the kitchen, I think. Could you go get him? It'll take me a minute to get up now." I laughed, getting a giggle from Lily Ann, who skipped off to get Liam, while I climbed to my feet, slowly. By the time I'd managed to get up, Lily Ann had returned with Liam in tow as he started saying something about drying the delph.

"We'll be late if we don't go now, Daddy. The delph will still be there when we get back. It'll probably have dried itself even, so come on." Lily Ann cut Liam off mid sentence, grinning at me before throwing Liam's coat at him and leading the way out to the car.

"OK, OK. Come on, then." Liam laughed, helping me into the car before jogging around to the driver's side, grinning at me when he started the car and started on the way to the hospital. "She's more excited about this than the lads ever were."

"I know. It's quite funny actually." I laughed quietly, glancing back at Lily Ann in the rear-view mirror when she huffed indignantly and smiling at her when she caught my eye and stuck her tongue out playfully, before folding her arms over he chest as if she were sulking.

"Alright. Sorry, little bear, but it's true." Liam apologized insincerely, grinning when Lily Ann laughed at him before she leaned forward to be heard clearly over the noise from the road works we were now driving passed.

"Well, I'm gonna be a big sister. That's a big deal. I just can't wait!" She exclaimed, laying her hand on my tummy lightly and cooing to Cathal, only stopping when he kicked, making Lily Ann's grin spread across her face yet again.

"Yeah; I guess it is." I sighed, smiling softly at Lily Ann, who grinned back, before returning to cooing to Cathal about what it would be like when he was born. She loved describing things to him and always came up with the most interesting ways of explaining how something looked.

"We wouldn't know about the excitement of being big brothers, though; we were both the youngest in our houses." Liam interjected, pulling up in front of the hospital and kissing both of us gently before jumping out of the car and jogging around to help me out.

"It is absolutely crazy to think we're having our second child in just under a month's time." I murmured to Liam when we arrived in the waiting room, after signing in at the front desk. Lily Ann was sitting next to Liam; bouncing her leg up and down as she waited, somewhat impatiently, as we waited to be called.

"Yeah......I still have to stop every once in a while and marvel at the fact we can even have children. It's supposed to be impossible and yet here we are: having our second." Liam replied, resting his hand on my stomach, just under where mine already was, before leaning forward to kiss me quickly.

"Niall Horan Payne?" A nurse, who looked about forty, asked as she looked around the room, only stopping when Lily Ann jumped up with Liam a beat behind her. After climbing to my feet, I followed behind Lily Ann as she skipped over to the nurse, with some help from Liam, who had his arm around my waist and was letting me lean on him for support.

Honestly, I don't know why they make those benches so low: this is a hospital waiting room and they've made it just about impossible for half the people coming here to actually get back up again once they've sat down.
