"You have to go Kyle." Alice said sternly. I shook my head.
"Yes you do. I've been home for a week now. It's a start of a new week. It's a Monday. Melody has been missing school too, and I don't think her parents are too happy with it anymore." Alice said. I knew that Melody's parents didn't mind since we were getting all the lessons on paper brought to us from Melody's siblings from school. But I decided not to point that out. I shook my head again. Alice sat down on the bed next to me.
"Kyle. Honestly. I don't want to sent you back yet. I don't. Ok? But if not, I'm going to be forced to sent you back to mom." Alice said. That stung. A few months ago Alice had gained the right as my legal guardian. I'm not sure how she did it, but I knew mom still wasn't too happy. Alice had done it a few weeks after we had come to Michigan. But hadn't told me till later.
"Kyle, besides. Winter break is next week. You're spending most of the two weeks at Melody's. On Christmas Eve we spend the day with Melody's family, and dinner with Max and his family. On Christmas it's just the two of us. Presents, cookie baking, snow and more. Come on Kyle. One more week and then you get two weeks off." Alice finished. I finally gave in.
"Thanks Kyle. Max said he would come pick you up. Melody's dad is picking you up tomorrow and the day after that. I'll be home a little late today. I have work to do. Just tell Max to drop you off home. You have the keys and all that right?" Alice asked. I shook my head.
"Ok good." Alice left my room. I got dressed and ran downstairs. Butter less toast was waiting on the counter.
"Sorry Kyle we ran out of butter again. I'll buy some before I get home. Ok, I got to go. Max should be here soon." Alice said. She grabbed her coat and ran outside. Her car turned on with a rumble and drove off. I ate the food quickly and washed the dishes in the sink. Max arrived about ten minutes after.
"Kyle! Ready to go?" Max called. I turned off the water and got my backpack.
"Alice already leave?" He asked. I shook my head.
"Alright let's go." Max said. We made it to school in time. Max dropped me off and I ran into the school and down the halls. Melody was already by my locker waiting. My locker was swung open.
"You forgot your math homework at my house." Melody said not even looking up from her book. I paused. Oh yeah. The homework I didn't finish.
"I finished it for you and corrected it." Melody said. "It's a wonder you have a A in math." Actually, it's because that's the only subject Melody does most of my homework in. What can I say. I'm a forgetful person.
"Come on Genius. We're going to be late for class." Melody said as she pulled me into advisory.
I didn't miss school one bit.
