My dignity screamed at me to just storm out and leave Balthazar there but it was the overwhelming relief of seeing someone from the outside world again that made me sit down in that chair and pick up the phone.
"Castiel..." Balthazar started, unable to look me in the eyes, "Listen, I'm going to get you out of here, okay? This wasn't supposed to happened. God, this wasn't how I wanted things. I was supposed to protect you!"
"I know", I replied flatly.
"I'm sorry!" Balthazar said quickly, "I'm going to get you another court trial. You'll be out of here in no time, I promise".
When I didn't respond, Balthazar sighed and decided to change the subject slightly.
"So, how are things going in there?" Balthazar asked riskily.
"How are things going?" I repeated back to him with disbelief, "I have to shower with other men!"
"Shit, Castiel, this isn't what was supposed to happen", Balthazar ran a hand over his face stressfully, "I wasn't thinking straight. I heard the police sirens and I thought you'd come with me but...you stayed to help that man".
"So, you're saying that this is my fault?"
"No!" he hurriedly shook his head, "Of course not!"
"I had to spend three nights in a pitch black room with only one serving of bread and water per day", I told him coldly.
Only just then, Balthazar noticed the fading wounds on my face. They weren't as bad as back then and had cleared up a little but the bruising was still painful.
"Did you get in a fight?" Balthazar asked.
"A fight requires both participants to be fighting, doesn't it?" I glared at him.
"Yes".
"Then I got in a half-sided fight", I replied, "They put me in a cell with the one person that is out to kill me. The worst part is how I just know it's going to happen again tonight...and the night after that...and the night after that".
"Ask if you can move cells", Balthazar suggested stupidly.
"Balthazar, this isn't fucking school", I snapped.
He flinched at my language, looking taken aback.
"You never swear", Balthazar raised his eyebrows, "You always scold me for swearing. What the hell has this place done to you?"
He wrapped the phone cord around his finger and stared down at the table, trying to think of what to say.
"Have you at least got anyone who's nice to you?" Balthazar eventually asked.
I thought about it. Gabriel was someone who I used to think I could trust. Although I did lash out on him for no exact reason. Maybe he was also scared of his brother but just didn't want to admit it.
"Well, I think I'm...or was friends with someone called Gabriel", I told him, "He's the brother of Lucifer, the one who did this to me. But I shouted at him in a hallway and told a police offer to shut up, resulting in being sent down to the...to the SHU".
I even struggled to say the name. Even now, I wasn't feeling exactly right.
"Wow", Balthazar responded, surprised, "Doesn't sound like you. You must have been stressed out. Sounds a bit harsh, being sent there just for that".
"Exactly!" I exclaimed with annoyance, "Exactly".
"Anyone else?" Balthazar questioned.
