I had on a red and black plaid shirt open with a tank top underneath and my black shorts. My hair was pulled to the side in a tight braid with s little help from Amber. Okay maybe it was a lot of help but hey! It's not my fault I didn't care what I looked like! Amber as you can tell picked out my clothes....because I would never wear something this ....showy..... in front of a bunch of drunk guys. Amber had on a simple red dress that came just to the top of her knees and a black flower barrette in her hair. I wasn't really fond of being in a huge crowd, and I was only doing this for Amber. We walked in the crowded house together.Immediately Amber saw Jake and smiled at me, "Hey I'm going to go try and make things happen," she said and winked at me. "Text me when you're ready to leave and I'll meet you outside." I nodded and she smiled at me. "You're the best!" she said and was eaten by a crowd of people. Well great....I thought. Now what? I looked around at all the people. They were all dancing and singing with red solo cups filled with beer in them. The music was too loud for my liking, and definitely not my choice of music style. I desperately looked for someone I knew.
I definitely win the best friend award for this one Amber, I thought to myself. I squeezed myself through the huge crowd and eventually made it into the backyard.
Finally some fresh air. I'm not claustrophobic, but there are seriously way too many people here. I spotted a bunch of sophomores that I had seen in the cafeteria several times, but for the most part I was a huge stranger to everyone, and they were all avoiding me.
Thank God. I didn't want any creepy boy coming up to me and talking to me. I think I'll pass thank you very much. I went back into the kitchen to grab some water.
I approached a guy who I was unfamiliar with, and said "Hey do you know where I could get some water or something?"
He looked at me and smiled and said, well he didn't really say, he more of screamed, "ALL YOU CAN FIND HERE IS GOOD OLE FASHION ALCOHOL MY LOVE!" Then he was taken away by a group of guys. I sighed and looked around some more. Have I mentioned that I absolutely hate parties? Well, if I haven't, I'm saying it again. I whipped out my phone and texted Amber
To: Amber
Message: Hey where are you? I'm tired of this place already.
I sent the message and slid my phone back into my pocket.
A couple seconds later another boy approached me, "Hey you were looking for some water, I've heard there's coolers out front I could go get you one."
I smiled saying, "Thanks, I'll just go with you." I followed him out front and after about 3 minutes of digging through ice and hundreds of empty beer cans we found 2 waters. We sat on the rail of the wrap around porch facing the neighbors house.
"Pretty crazy in there" He said looking at me. From the 3 second glance I got of him I could see that he had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen. Not that I've looked longingly into a lot of boys eyes, but you know you get my point. I noticed that he had chocolate brown hair that would look boring on most people but for him it gave him a sexy mysterious look. I nodded my head nervously and took a sip of my water.
"My friend dragged me here." I said shyly, looking at the ground.
He chuckled saying, "Sounds like something a girl would do." Now it was my turn to laugh. Amber was pretty much known for forcing me into things I didn't want to do.
"Yeah" I said softly, shivering from the wind. "It's pretty cold out here," he said looking at me grinning.
I nodded "Yeah but there's no way in hell anyone could force me back inside that party." I said.
He laughed and nodded, "Yeah I'm not particularly fond of parties." he said.
"Me either, as you could obviously tell, I usually just sit outside and wait for my friend, Amber, to be done, or when I find out she's passed out somewhere or too drunk to even walk straight that's my cue to go get her and drive her drunk ass home."
He looked at me a little surprised and said "And you let her do this to you?" he paused then continued saying, "You let her drag you to parties, and while she's out partying doing god knows what you're sitting here miserable. Doesn't really sound like a friend to me." I nodded, I knew he was right.
"We're best friends, shes there for me when I need her and I do the same thing for her. I know if I was out partying and got drunk she'd carry me to the car and drive me home and cover for me." I said not even knowing if that was fully true. Would she? Or would she just leave me? I have no idea, but I know I would never ever drink so I don't even have to think about if she would or not.
"I didn't even catch your name." he said downing the remains out his water bottle.
"I'm Scarlet." I paused for a second and then realized The polite thing to do would be to ask back. "And yours is?" I returned finally.
"Scarlet...that's a name you don't hear everyday, I like it. I'm Jason." I blushed and looked at the ground. "I'm going to go get another water, you want one?" he said jumping down off the railing.
"Yeah that sounds great actually, I'll be here." I said tossing him my empty one. A couple minutes passed by and I've watched 3 people throw up their guts less than 10 feet away from me, and I think it's safe to say I want to get the hell out of here. I check my phone to see if Amber had responded, and just as I expected, she hadn't. She was probably to busy having boys drooling all over her. I mean I don't necessarily blame them. She is so beautiful. Remember early how I said we looked like twins? Well, apparently not to the guys. A guy hasn't voluntarily talked to me ever really, with the exception of Jason.
Speaking of him where is he? Probably still digging through ice struggling to find 2 more water bottles.
Just then Jason appeared from the corner, and hopped back up onto the railing. He handed me the water bottle and said, "Sorry this guy threw up all over the grass and kept trying to make me grab him another beer."
I laughed and he looked at me confused. "I saw it too" I explained.
"Oh," he said smiling opening up his water and taking a huge swig of it. "SO Scarlet, why don't you tell me about yourself." I held my breath, I'm not really a talker especially when it comes to guys.
"I...uh.." I stuttered.
He laughed and I could feel my face get red. "I can see you're not much of a talker, why don't we go grab some chips or something and then we can come back and start over?" I smiled nodding and I followed him back through the humid house full of sweaty boys and dancing girls. We walked into the kitchen and searched for some food.
"Hey I'm friends with Jake. I can just go ask him where he keeps the food." He says shouting over the screaming people.
I nod and say "I'll be outside where we were". He gives me a thumbs up and I make my way back outside. Then suddenly I felt a strong arm grab me and a large hand cover my mouth and the mystery person ran me upstairs, and into a closet. I kicked and I screamed like my life depended on it. What the hell was happening? Was it just Amber messing with me? No, her hands aren't this big. Then I felt the person let go of my body and I dropped to the ground. "HELP!!" I screamed and then the hand slapped my face and I looked at the person. "Nick?" I said confused. The person standing above me was Nick Clark. I've known this kid since the 2nd grade. Confused I asked, "What are you doing?"
Just then I heard the sound of a gun cock and he pressed it firmly against my temple.
"Do as I say or I'll shoot."
I know this kinda came up suddenly but I hope you're liking it so far! I'm having a blast writing it! Thank you for reading!
Love you guys!
