Alex's POV

I've never really been in love before. Though from what i've seen in movies, love is intense. Everytime I see her its like my heart stops. I didn't know what to do. I opened up to my mom about my feelings and today I get to meet some son of her friend. Turns out she doesn't accept that I like Tobin as more than a friend and now she's trying to get me interested more in guys. Goodluck with that.

"Alex come downstairs! He's here!" My mom yelled to me. I rolled my eyes and slowly walked downstairs. I could be doing a million better things right now. Walking down, I could see that he looked familiar. He smiled at me and introduced himself as Servando. Nice name.

"I'm Alex as you probably already know," I told him. He just laughed and nodded.

"Well why don't you two go in the living room and talk some more? I'll bring some drinks in a bit," my mom walked away and left me with this guy. I couldn't wait to have fun. We sat apart in the living room and i've never felt more awkward. Servando on the other hand, looked like he'd never been happier. His eyes stayed on me and I swear his smile never left his face. Not even when I told him all about Tobin. It seemed like he was prepared and directed the conversation to other things easily. We were soon talking about soccer when I realized where he looked so familiar from.

"You play on the varsity soccer team right?" I asked him.

"Yeah this is my third year on the varsity team. Ever since freshman year I must've been really good," he laughed. I remembered watching some of his games and he did stand out now that I think about it. Another memory came to mind suddenly.

"Were you in Mrs. Olsen's class in third grade?" I asked him. He thought for a second and laughed.

"Yeah actually I was. That's where I know you from," he continued laughing. I remembered that he used to be the chubby kid who always made me laugh in class. He was also the reason why I got into so much trouble in school. He pointed out that we had English class together this year which was weird because I would've noticed him.

We continued talking for another hour before he had to go to soccer practice. He gave me his number and I didn't realize until he left that I actually enjoyed his presence. I went up to my room with this dumb smile on my face that I hated. A guy shouldn't be able to come here and talk to me for an hour and make me all giddy. It wasn't fair. Most of the guys in my classes were jerks but Servando seemed nice. I hoped it stayed that way.

Tobin's POV

Being a Co-captain of the varsity team definitely had its perks. Most people hated waking up early on a Saturday but me? I loved it. I loved seeing the sun come up and being by myself. There was no expectations on me in those quiet moments. I could just sit and watch the sun come up and not think about anything. After the sun had risen, I checked my watch: 8:00am. Today I had to help teach little kids about soccer and I was beyond excited about it. I really loved kids even though teaching them anything was hard. After getting to the public center, I saw the other Co-captain of the team walking in. Only one of us needed to be here today. I quickly caught up to her after a moment.

"Hey I thought I was the one coming today?" I asked her.

"You are and I thought I could join you. I really like kids," she told me with a huge smile on her face. A little girl who looked about three walked up to us then. Christen's face lit up as she picked up the young girl.

"Are you the girls on tv?" the little girl asked.

"She means the National soccer team. We show the kids most of the games during our breaks and they all love it," An older woman explained as she approached us. I noticed most of the kids wore a Wambach jersey and I remembered some of the games that would come on TV.

"Well maybe we both might get to play for the National team someday," Christen answered. I knew that dream was years away but the idea of playing for an official National team excited me.

"Okay kids, I have some very nice people with me today and they're gonna teach us about soccer," the woman explained to the group of kids. At the mention of soccer, everyone gave their full attention, which was adorable.

"So the first thing we're gonna teach you is passing. Now it might seem easy and not as important, but passing is something that is done throughout the game and an accurate pass is needed to help your teammates score," I explained. All of the kids were hanging onto my every word, even the little kids.

"Me and my partner Christen are going to demonstrate some basic passes and afterwards, you can all try it for yourselves. Sound good?" I asked them. They all yelled in agreement which made me smile. It was easy to see that these kids all loved soccer. We continued teaching them about the importance of passes and shooting the ball and soon, it was lunch time. Most of the kids went home at this time except for a girl who lingered around me. She seemed nervous about something.

"Hey are you okay?" I asked the girl. She was one of the older kids and she helped a lot of the younger ones actually make contact with the ball.

"I'm scared i'm not going to be a good player. There's tryouts for a youth team at my school and a lot of the older kids are trying out. I don't think i'll make the team so why bother," the girl was on the verge of tears.

"Don't think like that. There's always gonna be people older than you but you have skills that those kids don't have. You already know how to shoot a ball and you even scored a couple against me right?" the girl nodded and smiled.

"For my high school team there was a bunch of girls that were at tryouts and I was younger than a lot of them. Turns out, I was one of the fastest and I did better than I ever expected. Dont count yourself out yet," I told the girl and hugged her. She thanked me and her mom arrived to pick her up. She reminded me a lot of myself at that age and I remembered all of the fears I had about making any teams. But here I am, Co-captain and all.

"You were really good with the kids today," Christen told me as we started walking out of the public center towards her car.

"Thanks. You were too. I was surprised that you even came today," I said.

"I told you I loved kids. Especially teaching them," She replied.

"I would say that you could be a teacher if this soccer thing doesn't work out but I know it will. You're a good player," I told her. She thought about this for a while before answering.

"You're a good player too Tobin. I know we'll both make the National team. I promise," we got to her car and hugged before going our separate ways. I saw a side of Christen that I hadn't seen before and I really liked it. I always knew she was a beautiful girl but now I knew that she was also kindhearted. A wonderful combination.
