Chapter 17: Danny's King?

When I awoke that morning, Danny was gone. He hasn't come back ever since then. Did he not love me anymore? Why did he leave without saying goodbye? My mind was racing with different thoughts. Was he upset that we couldn't have sex? I couldn't figure it out. I waited day and night for him to return but he never did. My next door neighbor began to take a notice to me. He was a nice guy. His name was Will. He was in his late 20s. He was a little nerdy, always had glasses on. He begged me to go on dates with him. I turned him down each time but he never gave up. I didn't want to give up on Danny coming back. I remembered him vanishing for a long time in my past life. I dont remember why though. Danny took most of those memories away and left the ones from this life.

One night, I was coming back from the store. It had just finished raining. But something felt off. I kept checking behind me, no one was there. Every time I turned the corner, it was like I was being followed. I got to my apartment before they grabbed me. It was two guys, they were covered up completely. They held a knife to my neck. They took the keys from me and got in. One took my bags and the other tossed me to the floor. They were searching my apartment. The other locked the door. They went looking through drawers. They became angry. "Where is the money?" One of them screamed at me. Before I could answer, one of them was charging at me. His hands wrapped around my throat. I started kicking and hitting. I was losing air.

Then, a flash of light came from under neath the door. The two guys looked over. The door busted open. The two men were picked up in a mini tornado then tossed out the window. Glads shattered as they both screamed. The window was fixed along with the door. I glanced out the window. The two guys laid dead in the street. My eyes looked over at the bright light. It wouldn't stop glowing. Finally it ended. There stood a monster. A face I couldn't recognize. They wore a crown on their head. A monster king? What would he want with me?

The light vanished within seconds. It was Maxinus. Why was he wearing a crown? "I'm sorry. You were expecting Sitheyn?"

I nodded. My heart dropped into my chest. "Where is he? He never came back. He hasn't been here in three weeks."

Maxinus sat on a bar stool. "I came here three weeks ago. Another monster challenged him for the crown because Sitheyn was chosen to get the crown. After all the years he's been alive, the council thought he would be perfect. He came and performed three tasks, was judged and he won. He wanted to come back and see you as soon as he could. But, they wouldn't let him leave. They're afraid to loose another great king. I was just speaking to him. He sensed you were in danger. He gave me the crown to borrow. It has great powers in it."

I nodded. This was a lot to take in. My body sunk into the couch. Danny was king? That's why he never came back. It wasn't because he didn't want to. "Can I see him?" Maxinus looked away. "Please." I begged. It had been almost a month since I've seen him. Maxinus stood up silently. I got up and walked over to him. Before I could plea with him anymore, a portal opened up. I actually didn't expect him to give in so quickly. He grabbed my hand and led me inside. We popped out on the other side. There were monsters all around.

A couple were guarding the castle. Which looked very old. Instead of water underneath, it was lava. Maxinus walked past the bridge and past the guards. They didnt even glance at me. As we walked by a few windows, there were monsters swimming in the lava. Maxinus led me down the hallway. We stopped at a random door. A few monsters walked by with papers or books in their hands. He pulled out a key and unlocked a door. It was a bedroom. Nobody was inside it though. Maxinus placed the crown on a pillow in the middle of the room. Then placed a glass box over it. Maxinus put his hands together and stood up straight. "I'll tell him you're here. He really has missed you." He left me alone in the room.
