Refusing Nothing

There wasn't anything Noah wouldn't do for you. No. You had to take that back. There was one thing he refused to do for you and it was driving you crazy.

"It's only water." You pleaded and pulled at his shirt, trying to tug it over his head.

"I am aware of that." He pried your hands away from his shirt and took a step back.

"But what if I go in alone and a big fish eats me?" You smiled slyly.

"Well..." He lifted an eyebrow at you. "Then I guess I'd be looking for a new wife."

Noah adjusted his shirt and retucked it into his pants. With a wave of his hand, he gestured to the wide stretch of beach and the beating surf beyond.

"We're on our honeymoon. Go swimming. Have fun. I'll stay here on the beach and enjoy the sun and watch you swim."

"But I want to frolic with you, Noah." Your hands reached for his shirt again and he batted them lightly away.

"I don't frolic." He groused.

"Sure you do." You teased. "We frolicked in our room last night. Remember?"

When your husband's cheeks began to turn slightly pink, you thought you had won. Reacting quickly, you twined a hand in his and started pulling him behind you toward the water. Your own clothes had been tossed off long ago and you were wearing only a tiny pale blue bikini. Noah's eyes had been slipping down to eye your curves for the past half hour. That's how long you had been trying to convince him to swim in the warm waters with you.

The waters in California were so much warmer than the waters in Alaska. He knew that. And you knew Noah could swim. So that wasn't the problem.

"Ok. Out with it." You finally jammed your hands on your hips and demanded.

Your lips pursed out and a furrow of lines formed between your brows. You weren't really angry. Yet.

Throwing off your pouting stance like it was a light blanket, Noah tucked a finger into the top of your bra top and drew you to him. His hands slid up and down your bare back and he gave your bottom a little pat before his hands settled around your waist.

"I will frolic in the ocean with you tomorrow." His promise was sincere but your disappointment was still an unhappy mask on your face.

"Why not today?" You lifed your head and kissed the soft underside of his jaw.

Noah's heartbeat thudded against yours as he held you close. "Because today I want to watch you. I want to watch you splash and play and I want this memory emblazoned in my mind."

You looked into his eyes and wondered why this memory was so important to him. But you trusted him. So you held him close and felt his warmth and waited to hear the rest.

"Because after this, I want to stay as close to you as we are right now.  Every memory we make after this will always include both of us and soon it will include our children, too."

You nodded blissfully at the thought of all the memories the two of you would make. And it didn't matter to you where you lived. Whether it was in the city or in Browntown, you only wanted to live your life with him. Noah's hands tightened around you and he kissed you sweetly and deeply until everything melted away from around you. The surf still pounded and the gritty sand still sent tiny light daggers into your bare toes. But all you felt was Noah's arms around you and his lips on your mouth.

Finally, you reluctantly stepped out of his embrace and with a slightly sad smile, you turned and padded alone toward the light pulse of the surf. The sun was bright and your hair flew out like a wave behind you. Splashing through the shallow water, aware of your husband's eyes on you,  you also heard Noah's laughter as it carried on the salty wind.

Noah watched you for a few moments, his smile never leaving his lips. You tried to enjoy your time in the water, but you wanted him with you.

Finally, removing his dark jacket, Noah let the heavy coat drop to the sand. It wasn't just your beauty that drew him to you. It wasn't just the light that you radiated as you slipped and slid through the shimmering water. He wanted to be with you. You were everything he wanted and everything he needed and he couldn't stay away any longer. He yanked the long white shirt up over his head as he kicked off his boots. When his dark pants dropped to the ground and he was standing only in his swim shorts, that's when you turned and saw him.

"Come play with me!" You laughed and shouted over the soft crashing of the waves and held out both your arms to your husband.

Noah strode out into the water and held out his hands to take yours, refusing you nothing.
